What a disappointment! We were really looking forward to this place and unfortunately it missed the mark!
The ambiance was cool, something different and unseen, pictures in a cartoonish manner of existing Punjabi celebrities as a mural or homage of Chandigarh. And that was the only thing we liked!
To begin, I felt as if the menu was trying too hard to be something other than authentic. All the known dishes had something unnecessary to describe it- deviating from originality!!
We asked the server what are their famous dishes, he mentioned a few items to try but there was a HUGE push to order Indo-Chinese as it was their newest offering. (We opted against that, as we were interested in Punjabi food)
We started with a Chole Buture (one of their famous dish) and Papdi Chaat along with sweet lassi. Now I’ve had my share of lassi, and this was the first time it was with Elaichi (cardamom) mixed into it! It was so off putting, but the yogurt was creamy and sugar consistency was spot on).
When the chole buture came out, the buture was burnt, flat, and just not at all like it should have been- we called the server right away and they were nice about bringing another one out, but the second one was not much different (at least it was t burnt) the chole however were good, and it came with onions and agar.
The papdi chat was neither amazing nor horrible- we ate it but were unfazed.
We proceeded to order the “butter chicken” naan, and kulcha. However the butter chicken was sooooo watered down and tasteless that the gravy was literally dripping with off the naan! The chicken itself was not cooked properly and it tasted like it was boiled separately and dumped in the gravy.
The naan was good and the Kulcha was burnt!
Overall this place did NOT hit the spot for us and we will continue our search for authentic...
Read moreStepping into Chandigarh Wale feels like you're walking into a cozy family kitchen, not a fancy restaurant. If you're looking for a Michelin-star ambiance, this might not be your spot, but if your stomach is rumbling for some authentic, Punjabi-style comfort food, you've hit the jackpot. We kicked things off with the Chaat Papdi and Paneer Pakoda. One bite and you could tell these weren't some run-of-the-mill, mass-produced appetizers. They tasted just like something my mom would whip up—simple, fresh, and bursting with a homey flavor that made us feel right at home. They were the perfect start to our meal. Next up, the Chole Bhature—and oh boy, were they a treat! The chole was perfectly spiced, and the bhature were fluffy and light. Both were absolutely delicious. Then, on the chef's recommendation, we tried the Chicken Roadside Curry. And let me tell you, it was a game-changer. The first taste took me straight back to the streets of my hometown, a wave of nostalgia in every bite. It was just one of those dishes that proves that sometimes the simplest food is the most memorable. To top it all off, the chef sent over some complimentary Aloo Kulcha and Gajar Halwa. My two kids, who can be pretty picky eaters, devoured every single bite. And as any parent knows, that's the ultimate seal of approval! In a nutshell, Chandigarh Wale is for anyone who is tired of heavy, creamy curries and wants a taste of Punjab that feels like it was made with love. The decor might not win any awards, but the food is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and warmth in your belly. If you're craving a genuine, no-frills meal with a "mom's touch," you absolutely have to check...
Read moreI recently dined at Chandigarh Wale and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. As a food enthusiast in my forties, I've had my fair share of Indian cuisine, but this establishment truly stands out.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, with tasteful decor that created a pleasant dining atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home.
Now, let's talk about the food. We started with the classic Daal Makhani, and it was a revelation. Creamy and rich, it had a depth of flavor that spoke to hours of slow cooking and perfect seasoning. The raita was the perfect cooling companion, with just the right balance of spices and freshness. The Sarson ka Saag was another highlight, offering a hearty and comforting dish with robust, earthy flavors.
The naan was fresh and soft, and the rice was fragrant, complementing the main dishes perfectly. We also tried the Paneer Tikka, which was grilled to perfection and seasoned just right.
What truly sets Chandigarh Wale apart is their commitment to authenticity and quality. Every dish felt like it was made with care and passion. The portions were generous and the prices reasonable, making it a great value for money.
Overall, Chandigarh Wale offers a dining experience that is both delightful and satisfying. It's a place where the rich flavors of Indian cuisine come alive, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal. I'll definitely be returning soon!
