Where do I start... I wasn't going to rate this place to begin with, because I don't often want to waste time on average restaurants. BUT! Your establishment made me and my family sick to our stomach LITERALLY! And no we ate nothing else prior that day to blame so we came hungry. My husband had to miss work the next day. Now, for the culprit that made us sick, I'm not sure since most of the food was warmed up or not freshly made. The waiter said " Our ribs were made fresh today." I guess I should've took that as a warning and not shrugged it off. So before you say I don't know BBQ, yes I do Sir! I'm from Houston, Tx and we get down! We have an annual rodeo with bbq competitions and the works. We don't need to slather our bbq with sauce, it drips juices and fat all on it's own. I do appreciate your sauce, It was a great flavor and much needed since most of your meat was dry. Your chicken did not taste fresh and was dry, same for your brisket. They were average and did indeed need sauce. Your freshly made ribs were indeed overcooked and fell off the bone probably from them sitting in your smoker for so long since it was towards your closing time at 5:30 I believe. Your sides were decent, the mac n cheese was disappointing. Noodles were a bit gummy still and cheese was lacking the "cheese" it needed. The onion rings were fried fresh but not so sure about the batter since they were kinda rubbery after the initial crunch. Your "giant" potato was not so giant. Portions, Atmosphere, Service was OK. The wait to be served was way too long for everyone there conisdering your establishment was empty. Everything was again average and nothing to write home about. I know the owner most likely will reply, so let me say this. I wish in no way to tear down a small business it seems you try to work hard for, but honestly a restaurant that is not busy and booming on a "holiday" needs improvements. I understand times are tough, but making customers sick and eat food that was not freshly prepared is unacceptable. Being open to critique is critical for success. I hope you fix your problems and your doors remain open because you have good bbq flavor but need...
Read moreTalk about being disappointed. This was my second visit to Baker Bros after the first was the exact same experience as the first, but I just knew it was an off night so I went back hoping for the real experience; and boy was I wrong. The location setting is “downtown” If that’s what you want to call Jackson having as you are always ten minutes away from everywhere, but it’s in a good spot away from the hustle and bustle of north Jackson. However, we walk in on both occasions, and we were the only ones eating in on a Saturday night 😳😳. The food was very disappointing. Not from a flavor stand point but certainly an amount. The pick two platter is priced at $20, but there are options at a tick below but all above $15. I chose the brisket and pulled pork as my two options. Baked beans as my side (normally wouldn’t put, but relevant here later). I got one slice of brisket (not hearty) that probably measured 3oz, and a spoonful of pulled pork probably right at 3oz, but I’m thinking just below. So if we’re being generous 6oz of meat for that price. Then the baked beans, oh the beans!!! You got a cup of beans (by far the most generous offering) but an offering that comes out like molten lava. I’m not talking garden variety hot, I’m talking about no steam on top hardly because it’s consumed below, you take a bite and then you realize you’ve just swallowed your own piece of historic Mt. Saint Helens, praying your taste buds will heal by 2024. Dear baby Jesus they were hot 🥵. The service was just as bad, the one server just kind of sits and looks at your table and we even had to raise our glasses to get a refill. He certainly wasn’t interested in being the self starter type. After both visits and the offering we received, the place is a no. Especially with no other customers there either, we can see why. In hindsight, it looked like a creepy scene out of a movie where they’re peddling something out of the back, but this gets...
Read moreAh, let me spin you a yarn about a BBQ joint in Jackson, Tennessee, that’s truly a marvel in the art of minimalism. I ventured in with a hunger as big as the South and $10 in my pocket, aiming to conquer what I imagined would be a mighty sliced brisket sandwich. But what arrived was a culinary haiku: two shy slices of brisket perched on a bun that could've doubled as a flying disc, all lonely on a vast plate.
My wife, ever the optimist, followed suit with a similar choice, thinking maybe, just maybe, her dish would be the exception. Spoiler: it was not. It seemed they took "less is more" a tad too literally at this establishment. We shared a laugh—because really, what else could you do?
And let's chat about the extra seasoning on the bill—a 10% fee for using a credit card. Yep, no mystery freeway charge, just a straight-up tax on modern convenience. Add to that a setting where you might hurriedly jog to your car rather than stroll, it was more of a wild west vibe than a warm southern welcome.
So, if you find yourself in Jackson with a hankering for BBQ, this place could be on your list—if you're in the mood for a culinary adventure where the portions are as slim as the chances of leaving satisfied. It's a quirky stop for sure, perfect for a light nibble (emphasis on 'light') or just a whimsical tale...
