Read moreI walked in on December 16, 2021, and asked the guy behind the counter what was good? He replied, "Everything's good." I asked the next guy working behind the counter the same question, and he replied in kind.
I ordered an ox tail dinner with all the sides. Without a doubt, the food served here is as authentic you can without taking a trip to the Caribbean. The food served here will appeal to all of your culinary senses.
This is not one of those fancy Michelin five-star restaurants on your bucket list you dream about being able to visit. However, at the Jamaican & African Cuisine restaurant, you will receive the best plate of homecooked food between the Mississippi River and New York City.
If you live in Jackson, TN, or on the road traveling and looking for something different to break the monotony of the boring national chain restaurants, this is the place. The food is served like when eating at Grandma's house. The food here is the best Jamaican cooking has to offer. The single serving portions are large enough for 2 dinners to share. The flavor is off the Richter scale, and if you are weight conscience, make a visit here your cheat day.
Mr. Jospeh is the chef/owner of Jamaican & African Cuisine with his two sons. He was a pleasure to meet and talk with every dish he prepares; his first ingredient is a double dose of L O V E. I enjoyed eating here so much. I dined twice in one day and also got plates to go for dinner the next day.
The quality and value of the food make this a place I am anticipating visiting again soon very soon. It is well worth the 180-mile round trip drive. Stop by soon and see Mr. Joseph and ask what's good? and...
Read moreFood is my life: I am a professional chef, which sometimes sounds pretentious... but I just want ya'll to know that I take food service very seriously. I was happy to find this little gem of a kitchen with good to great reviews, just a few blocks from my mediocre corporate hotel- and open late to boot. I ordered jerk chicken, yellow rice, and plantains. I added a Red Stripe and a Beef Patty at the last minute, which turned out to be a genius move. I ate the Patty on the way home, as everyone SHOULD, but the experience was so moving that I almost cried and could have gotten in an accident. There should have been a warning label on that little grease-stained, unassuming brown paper bag the Patty was stuffed into: "Do Not Eat and Drive". The crust was so flakey and perfectly crispy, and the spiced beef was better than any I've ever tasted. These are bold flavors, but they were not at all over-salted (which is so typically the case with complex spice blends) and everything was harmoniously balanced. This isn't just a hole in the wall take out spot: This is food made with a heavy hand of LOVE. I have eaten in incredible places, with stars and celebrity achievements, and tonight made me question EVERYTHING. In terms of my own career, do my guests walk away with the same warm, intangible longing? Does the love I have for my food become an impossible-to-trace kind of "Umami" that is so beautiful that those who eat my food shed tears of JOY? Friends, I have eaten great food... but this was a meal I will be replaying in my mind forever. Simple, honest, and an orgasm in every bite. Chef(s): Thank You so much for feeding me this dose of...
