I always come here and I've never had any problems.UNTIL YESTERDAY!WHICH WAS THE WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE.My family doesn't live here; they live in Peru, and when my mom comes to visit, she always likes to eat here. We also brought my grandfather, who is visiting the United States for the second time. He had a terrible experience because of this disrespectful waitress. Since there are bad reviews about her, I decided to write this post because she continues work there and ruin your customers' experience. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:20 and the waitress served us and gave us a table, she took our order,Our food arrived within 10 minutes and then She came over once and asked us if we needed any to-go boxes and we said no because we were still eating. She came over again at 8:50 to tell us the restaurant closes at 9 and if we needed the to-go boxes and of course we said no because we were still eating. My husband asked her if we had to leave at 9 because we were still eating and hadn’t finished, my mom’s and grandfather’s plates were almost full and we had barely touched our appetizer which was edamame. The waitress told us yes, that we had to leave at 9 because no one was going to be in the restaurant. Which we found strange because no restaurant would let you out at closing time if they still have customers eating. They close the kitchen and don’t provide any more food but they don’t kick you out of the place just because they’re closed. My mom who came to the United States as a TOURIST tells the guy who works there and speaks Spanish that she hasn't finished her soup and wants to keep eating, then the waitress with a bad attitude asks him what my mom was saying, and the guy tells her that she wants to keep eating her soup and she only claimed that they closed at 9, the waitress went to the back of the restaurant and called someone and started talking shit about us in a loud voice thinking that we weren't going to understand her just because we speak Spanish, my husband who was born here his first language is English and he understood perfectly all the shit that the waitress was saying about us.My husband stood up and started arguing with her and telling her to stop talking shit about us as if we didn't understand.Supposedly she was the manager, but then she called the other manager who is her superior,we had to wait until she comes because we were not going to pay for the food we had not eaten, and in all that time that we waited the waitress continued talking shit with a VERY BAD ATTITUDE,until after 18 minutes the other manager finally arrived who when she saw me recognized me and my husband who of course knows that we are frequent customers, we explained the situation to her and the other waitress denied that she had a shitty attitude with us, what she doesn't know and is going to find out now is that I WAS RECORDING HER THE WHOLE TIME, I HAVE PROOF, I HAVE THE TIME AND SHE IS NOT GOING TO SAY THAT WE ARE LIARS. Something I forgot to mention is that while we were waiting for the other manager, the Hispanic man who works there called, I think it was the owner or someone superior to her, and clearly told her what everyone knows, if the customers keep eating she has to wait until they finish (she has served me other times, and of course she will not be able to say anything because I always leave more than the percentage that should be for tips). The other manager who arrived last only charged us for my plate and my husband's plate, our appetizer that we put to go. NO ONE APOLOGIZED OTHER THAN THE HISPANIC WORKERS WHO WERE THERE, I thank you and I apologize because you got involved in this when you are not even to blame. ALL THE BLAME WAS ENTIRELY ON THE WAITRESS OF WHOM I WILL ATTACH THE PHOTO. TERRIBLE ATTITUDE, TERRIBLE SERVICE FROM HER. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK, DON'T WORK. It's just common sense. It seems like she's never been to a restaurant. I'm angry, especially because I see that, as she thinks, she is the manager and thinks she has the right to do everything...
Read moreThe service has gotten significantly worse since they opened, unless this just happened to be because it wasn't peak hours and they didn't really care. Ramen was brought out instantly, but the boba was left made on the counter and forgotten until I walked up almost 20 minutes later to ask about it. My omurice was also forgotten and left at the counter until I got up, when the employees finally got off their phones and grabbed it after it was pretty much cold. I also had to leave our table to ask for the check and to-go boxes, they had no intentions of checking up on us it seems, nor did they care.
As for the food, there is nothing to write home about. Some people like it, and some of it is fine if you have never had good ramen before, but Zundo Ramen is right nearby and has infinitely better flavor. I have lived in Japan for a time, so I can say with confidence that Zundo is much closer to real ramen that you get in Japan. The omurice is made by a machine and does not melt open when cutting (especially when employees bring it to you cold) and the fried rice is just drenched in soy sauce, which is not how real fried rice or omurice is even supposed to be. It was not terrible at best, and I really didn't enjoy it. It felt like a slap in the face to the actual food I had in Japan, not because it was different, but because it was so low quality. In addition to that, it is flipping expensive. A single omurice combo is going to run you $20, which is just a tiny can-sized drink full of ice and your main course. For two people we paid $40, while at Zundo I can get a whole massive bowl of ramen for $14. The prices are pretty similar, but I felt like I didn't get very much for what we paid for compared to Zundo.
All in all, I have given it two chances across a variety of dishes (I think I left a previous review from the first time I came), and it simply isn't good. I will only be going to Zundo from now on, as the omurice was my last-ditch effort to find a reason to ever choose it over Zundo. All these extremely positive reviews are older from people who are praising extremely average ramen (because it was scarce in MS before), and it seems the service has gotten worse since they opened. Don't be fooled into letting this ruin your view of...
Read moreNew restaurant alert! Kyuramen X Tbaar- Jackson MS is now officially open! We couldn't decide, so we ordered a whole spread 😆 I haven't seen anywhere around here that offers Omurice, and seasalt milk foam drinks, so I'm excited to see that on the menu.
What we got: Omurice - Soft scrambled egg over shittake fried rice, topped with Japanese gravy and crispy fried pork cutlet. Shouyu tonkotsu ramen with white garlic - A MUST!! Rich bone broth, tender sliced chasu pork, perfectly 6 min marinated soy sauce egg Spicy tonkotsu ramen - Has some Szechuan peppercorn which gives your tongue a slight numbing sensation, broth and flavor was on point. Fried squid tentacles - lightly battered, super tender, some of the best we've had around. Popcorn chicken - juicy, and tender, lightly breaded, taste like what I'm used to. Pork bao - steamed bao stuffed with slow cooked pork belly. Not bad, I'd get it again. Thai Tea - He thoroughly enjoyed it Brown sugar boba milk tea - Loved it, but probably get it half sweetened next time. Taro smoothie- delicious too, probably get it half sweetened next time.
If you've had them before in Houston, it's very much the same! We really didn't expect much since it's their first day and probably has a lot of kinks to work out, but from what we can tell, it was super smooth. Everything was great. Service, taste, and our server seems to know the menu quite well.
The place is cute! They have private individual booths, bar seating area, and cute honeycomb booths. Each table has a call button, so whenever you're ready to order, or need service, simply push the button. Before you leave, be sure to fill out your wish to put on their wishing tree. Added pics of the...
