My wife and I happened to be in Jacksonville Texas this past weekend. We are from the Dallas area, so we wanted to find someplace to have lunch before our return trip home. This little gem of a restaurant is tucked away near a bridge. I am sure the locals know of the Commerce Street Drafthouse, so we were Pleasantly surprised when we decided to stop by and have lunch there. When we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted with a smile and warm welcomes. The tables reminded me of sitting down at home which was a pleasant experience compared to most restaurants. The restaurant was clean and had character. The atmosphere was Laid back and not rushed. Our waitress stopped by and collected our drink orders and actually chatted with us and gave us her full attention and did not rush off as soon as we placed our order. She Promptly returned with our drink quarters and took our appetizer order. Shortly after that our appetizers arrived and they were the most amazing fried cheese Kurds we have ever ate. We were so happy they recommended the spicy ranch dressing on the side. We then placed our main orders. They had some yummy menu choices, and I chose their fish and chips, and my wife chose their chicken fried steak. We had time to enjoy our appetizer before the main course arrived. Our waitress kept our glasses full the entire time. Other staff in the restaurant also stopped by to check on us as we waited for our main course to arrive. It was so nice to be able to enjoy our food and talk and not feel rushed. This is not something you find much these days. Shortly after finishing our appetizer our main course arrived. The Fish and chips were perfect. Not overcooked not lukewarm but piping hot. The fish batter was crispy not mushy, and the fish was so flaky and fresh Tasting. The waitress shared with is that they use Cod for their fish and chips. The French fries were also crispy on the outside soft on the inside. My wife loves a good chicken fried steak, and they did not disappoint. She was so thrilled that she allowed me to have a bite of the most tender perfect chicken fried steak I think I have ever had! Kudos to the chefs in the kitchen! I wish that I would have taken some pictures of our plates of food as they not only tasted amazing, but they also looked amazing! The owners and staff of this restaurant have found the secret sauce! I can say with 100% certainty that if we find our way back to Jacksonville TX, we will be stopping at this restaurant again! I definitely recommend anyone to stop by Commerce Street Drafthouse if you pass through Jacksonville TX, or...
Read moreWalked in on a rainy night, 5 people at tables: 3 at one table, 2 at another. Sat down and 9 minutes later, the bartender came and asked me if I wanted a drink and a menu. She returned quickly with a drink but didn’t take my order, so I waited another 7 minutes until I went and asked the bartender if I could place an order. I ordered the CFS - lunch portion.
I patiently awaited my food and it arrived in a timely manner, but the waitress put it down and the table and disappeared. I never saw her again the rest of the night. Thing is, she didn’t even give me silverware. So I got up, walked over to the kitchen and there was a table full of napkin-wrapped silverware, so I took one.
It was good, but small. I got the impression it wasn't homemade though.
Got Mac n cheese as a side. It was cold. Not warm or room temperature, but actually COLD.
Eventually, the bartender walked by to talk to a “friend” and I stopped her to ask for my bill.
The price listed on the menu for a lunch portion chicken fried steak was $9.00, but she charged me $11. I thought about saying something, but I waited 9 minutes for a waitress just to recognize me. There was no chance I was getting anyone’s attention that crazy busy night!
It was a pretty bad experience. They lost a customer and that’s ok. I’m sure they...
Read moreWe went here for dinner last night. It wasn't super busy. Took us 15 minutes to get our drinks. 1 of which was a bottled beer. For some reason you have to order a mixed drink off of their menu (they will not stray even if they have the needed alcohols). I wanted a long island iced tea and was told they couldn't make one. About 45 mins to an hr later we finally got our food. We ordered chicken fried steak and it came out with a....honey mustard gravy? I'm not real sure what it was, but it wasn't very good. The chicken fried steak itself was good, just wish it would've been white gravy. Mashed potatoes reminded me of something you would get from a school cafeteria. Our waiter was friendly, but the slow service, odd choices for mixed drinks, and low quality food make this a place that I won't...
