Simple neighborhood restaurant with friendly service and delicious food - and they serve breakfast all day. I arrived at 10:30am to meet a relative who lives close by. Instead of breakfast, I ordered Shrimp Monfongo because the menu picture looked interesting and the owner said it was good. It's made with green plantains, crackling, garlic, and spices ground up and shaped into a ball. They serve it over tender shrimp (sauteed?)with a delicious sauce that tasted a little like curry. It took a little while to prepare but it was well worth the wait. It was delicious and a wonderful eating experience with the different textures. Definitely 2 thumbs up! Delicious food at affordable prices, in a clean restaurant with friendly service. I'll be back to try something else on my next trip to Jacksonville!

El Mofongo has the best Cuban sandwich in Jacksonville. I'm saying it and I stand by it. It weighs 2 lbs, maybe more. It's hard to describe, the bread is perfect, the pernil is moist and the ham is actual sliced ham, not just lunch meat thrown on as an after thought. The restaurant is simple but their food is on point. You walk up and order, ask about the daily specials, under $10. You can see the options in the serving window for people who feel unsure with the options. It's quick too. I would say almost every meal can serve two people. I eat here every couple months. I would highly recommend it.

We ordered a cake that looked horrible! After showing pictures of what my sister received, we asked for a refund. We were told to come to the restaurant for a full refund the next business day. when we came to the restaurant the owner wasn’t there to speak with us. We came later in the day and was denied our refund because we didn’t have the cake to return! We throw the trash away just like anyone else would! We have several photos of how damaged it was received. I use to support this place for what it was but I’m over it. Very unprofessional and didn’t have any customer service!

I've been coming to El Mofongo for many years. When I first started going, they had a small shop and it was primarily a bakery. It always smelled heavenly, but I was drawn there by the lure of a well-made Cuban sandwich and I was not disappointed! My father's family lived in south Florida, so I was introduced to good Cuban sandwiches at an early age. My search in most other cities only brought disappointment. When I stepped into El Mofongo, I knew my fortunes had shifted. Greeted by the owner, who although he's usually always on the phone taking orders - he still provides a big smile and good service, I was surrounded by customers from Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean islands. He treated everyone like they were long time friends - including me. The sandwich was near perfection. The ham is thinly sliced, but the roast pork (made in house) is cut generously thick. Although the sandwiches are pressed - you get a substantial amount of meat in every bite. Generous cheese and just the right amount of pickle - you almost don't want it to end. At $6.50 for lunch - it's a bargain that won't be met in any other place in town! Each day, they also offer a buffet-style lunch. I've tried several daily offers (roast chicken, roast pork, black beans & rice, etc) and all...

Worst spanish restaurant I have ever been to. The service was horrible, we didnt even get our drinks til after we got our food and only because we requested our drinks since we had not got Them. The appetizers were just okand we didnt get those til after we got our main course. I had ordered mofongo n carne frita after asking the person if pollo frito or carne frita and he said the carne frita was better. Then he goes and orders me pernil. When I got my plate I state that wasnt what I ordered. He starts arguing w me telling me that was what I ordered and doesnt offer to fix the problem just keeps arguing. We ordered some maduros and they were disgusting. You could tell they were cooked in old oil. They were soggy mess and teaed horrible. The mofongo was horrible. My mom got the seafood mofongo and the seafood was over cooked and chewy For dessert we ordered a flan and thank god we only ordered one. It was burnt and didnt taste like anything. Worst restaurant I have ever been to. Doesnt even...

It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. First came here a few years ago and it was delicious! Back in the area and really was looking forward to enjoying their food again. Ordered shrimp mofongo and it was so bland, I had to add 2 packets of salt to half of the mofongo to make it taste good. I didn't finish it. The relleno de papa was meh. The beef empanada did not impress. I would have given 3 stars but the owner told a member of our party "not now, we're too busy" when we were trying to order more items. Ummm what?!? That's not how customers should be spoken to, especially when they're trying to spend MORE money at your establishment. Won't return. We're Puerto Rican and last time the food was as good as my mom's cooking, and the customer service was also good. Definitely not as good on either front this time. I left...
