I've been coming to El Mofongo for many years. When I first started going, they had a small shop and it was primarily a bakery. It always smelled heavenly, but I was drawn there by the lure of a well-made Cuban sandwich and I was not disappointed! My father's family lived in south Florida, so I was introduced to good Cuban sandwiches at an early age. My search in most other cities only brought disappointment. When I stepped into El Mofongo, I knew my fortunes had shifted. Greeted by the owner, who although he's usually always on the phone taking orders - he still provides a big smile and good service, I was surrounded by customers from Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean islands. He treated everyone like they were long time friends - including me. The sandwich was near perfection. The ham is thinly sliced, but the roast pork (made in house) is cut generously thick. Although the sandwiches are pressed - you get a substantial amount of meat in every bite. Generous cheese and just the right amount of pickle - you almost don't want it to end. At $6.50 for lunch - it's a bargain that won't be met in any other place in town! Each day, they also offer a buffet-style lunch. I've tried several daily offers (roast chicken, roast pork, black beans & rice, etc) and all...

Read moreIt wasn't bad but it wasn't good. First came here a few years ago and it was delicious! Back in the area and really was looking forward to enjoying their food again. Ordered shrimp mofongo and it was so bland, I had to add 2 packets of salt to half of the mofongo to make it taste good. I didn't finish it. The relleno de papa was meh. The beef empanada did not impress. I would have given 3 stars but the owner told a member of our party "not now, we're too busy" when we were trying to order more items. Ummm what?!? That's not how customers should be spoken to, especially when they're trying to spend MORE money at your establishment. Won't return. We're Puerto Rican and last time the food was as good as my mom's cooking, and the customer service was also good. Definitely not as good on either front this time. I left...
