My husband, two daughters & myself, stopped in last night (Sun 28Jan18) for dinner. We arrived at 5:30pm and it was fairly open and we were seated immediately- not many were having dinner. We looked over the menu, and we waited...finally a woman (Rebecca) came over and explained a shift change was happening & she would find our server but meanwhile she would take our drink order (2 Cokes, a cider and an IPA) along with an item we've frequently ordered before, the mushroom spread appetizer. When she returned with our drinks she told us "apparently none of the servers decided not to show up, so I guess I'm your server". Nice. As we took our drinks to make a toast our daughter noticed very visible lipstick on my husband's dirty, pint glasss. We told our server (Rebecca) she took his IPA back for a "fresh one" but we believe she just poured his beer into another glass. (The IPA had no "head" or even foam on it which would indicate a newly draughted beer) Our appetizer arrived and we've had this item before but this time the ratio of bread to dip was off and we were left with an excess of mushroom spread but minimal bread. Again we flagged our server down and asked if we could just order some more toast for the remaining dip as well as another round of drinks but it was clear she was none too happy with our request for bread. We told her we'd pay extra for some additional bread for the remaining mushroom spread and 15 minutes later what she delivered to our table was TWO SLICES OF UNTOASTED, PLAIN, WHITE STORE BOUGHT BREAD straight out of the bag that she charged us $2.00 extra for -We couldn't believe it. By this time we had been in the restaurant for an hour and two other tables had been seated by the time she took our dinner order. We kept it very simple: 4 burgers---ONE cheeseburger, a Krispy Kreme burger, a stuffed burger and one black bean burger, three ordered with fries and one with onion petals and this us where the real wait happened-- it was as if our table was just forgotten. When the burgers were brought out by a food runner, everything looked delicious and it was hot which signaled that it hadnt sat under a heatlamp, but we had to ask for ketchup and mustard, which was extremely odd seeing as how we all had burgers and fries. At the end of our meal though, is when tummy troubles began. On our way home we all got very sick and were sick all thru the night. The one common thing we shared was the mushroom spread-- I know we wont be ordering that again as it made for a very LONG night! We're not sure what's happened at KICKBACKS, the food and atmosphere started out so good when we first started coming in a year ago and we eat here on the average of at least once a month. This is THE one place we love bringing out of town guests because it' is so unusual. You have a large menu and beer selection and the food used to be stellar, but we can see a steady decline. In the year we've been.visitng your restaurant, we've never had the same server twice, and ONLY once have we seen the same server in the restaurant so I dont believe staff is adequately trained. Thats discouraging. When we come yo a place so often,we like to see the same friendly faces.
We've also had issues with our entire table ordering and it is only when the food is brought out are people told "we're out of __ item" (usually the carrot dog or some other vegetarian fare) so that usually means they're still waiting for their food while everyone else has gotten theirs. That's awkward for everyone!
PLEASE, please try and correct these problems SOON!!! We live having KICKBACKS/Goozlepipes & Guttyworks in Jacksonville. The potential of this establishment is HUGE and I'd hate to see ratings go any lower. This is a hidden gem in Jax and to see it faltering like this is so disheartening. If it continues to decline on our next visit, I doubt we will be back. PLEASE fix...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had high hopes for this place and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is so cool, whether you're eating inside or outside. All of the staff were so friendly and fun! I sat within earshot of the hostess and enjoyed hearing these staff having fun with one another and with what seemed like 'regular' customers, seems like you're part of the family if you ever return. š I didn't have a huge appetite to start with, and that almost made the decisions more difficult as every item on the menu was so delectably described. I chose to sample a snack plate (sliders) and am appetizer (scotch eggs). The sliders had varying meat options, the waitress and kitchen hooked me up and let me split the 4 sliders into 2 with pulled pork and 2 with beef. I think I was halfway into the second slider when my waitress asked if I needed anything to go with them (ketchup, mustard, etc.) And with a mouthful of joy I responded that they were awesome just the way they came out. I had never had scotch eggs before and had been wanting to try them, if you've never tried them, I fully recommend them. These being the first I'd ever tried, but again having a somewhat high expectation of the dish - I was very pleased with my decision to try them. Nothing was "greasy", everything was balanced - both on my palate and to my taste buddies. š The menu carries enough variety that everyone in your party should be able to find something suitable to their dinning desires - no matter what you're "in the mood for" (for the most part). I didn't sample any adult beverages on this trip, but the seemingly endless list of choices should fill anyone's cup of tea, or beer, or whatever. If you've been wanting to check this place out - do it. If you're looking for someplace new - look no further. Check them out. And don't thank me... just tip your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāll start by being honest. I never much liked Kickbacks. I tried, gave it my best, but just couldnāt do it. The food was always pretty good, but took forever and the place just seemed to be degrading more and more each time I went. So roughly four years ago when Goozlepipe & Guttyworks opened, I was less than eager to try it. Until this past Thursday, I had managed to keep to my rigid pose and reject even the most ardent of friends prodding me to give it a try.
I now have four years worth of time to make up. Iām planning to devise a schedule that will allow me to enjoy all the beers and food I have been depriving myself of - because of my snobbery - in the most efficient way possible. Not really, but I do plan to eat there. A lot.
The atmosphere is so eclectic and mesmerizing. I found myself just staring at the walls. The food was great and our server, Sean (Dude, I hope I spelled your name right), was extremely friendly and attentive. We started with the Puffed Pastry Brie app and oh my stars! It was āscrumptulescentā! Delicious warm brie served with Ritz crackers, strawberry jam and candied fruit. Iām not just talking raisins and cranberries (though some of the latter were present). Candied strawberries, oranges and KIWI! WHAT!
For our entree, we split the Patty Melt, Fries and a bowl of Beer Cheese Soup. Which, I might add, makes for a delicious fry dipping sauce.
I give this place two very enthusiastic thumbs up, a few high fives and a Whoop whoop! In short... this. place. ROCKS!
P.S. Sorry the pictures are dark and blue. My flash is awful and this is honestly how youāll see your food when you eat there anyway. Notice the "when" not "if". =)
P.S.S. I have not been in the Kickbacks side in over 4 years, but if it's anything like G&G, I'd say...
