My first and last visit...My son decided to take his gf out to Harps and I was the designated driver. We arrived at Harps at 6:07pm on a Tuesday. I sat on one side of the restaurant and my son sat on the other side. I was immediately given a menu. No hi or anything, just menu placed on the table and “What would you like to drink”. I said water. A few minutes later the server came back with my drink and asked what I was having. I saw on the sign that it was Happy Hour so I asked what the happy hour menu was. The server said “Drink specials and discount on 2 fish items”. I asked what were the fish items and what was the discount. He replied very tart “I don’t know right off the top of my head” and walked off. It was like he was upset that I didn’t know his menu. About 10 minutes later he came back and placed the happy hour menu down and walked away. At 6:41, almost 30 mins later, he came back and just stood at my table with his notepad. I said, I thought you forgot about me. He just stood there with no response. Since he obviously wasn’t into words I just said, well ok. I asked him his name since he had no intentions of telling me. He said Nate. I ordered the fish nuggets and wings. At 6:48 my son texted me that they were already eating so I canceled my wings and just got the fish nuggets. No big deal because an hour into me being there Nate still hadn’t put my order in. The 4 miniature nuggets that finally arrived were actually good, a little greasy. But the service from Nate was borderline insulting. It wasn’t even crowded. Nate never came back to my table. I ended up going to the bar to pay for my 4 miniature nuggets and I was charged extra for sauce that I didn’t ask for and says on the menu it comes with it. This is the first time I have gone to a restaurant and been treated like I was not welcomed. Just not worth me paying my money to be treated bad. There are too many restaurants out there. Not sure how they got so many good reviews. It seems like the customers that were there are regulars and that’s who they are cordial to....
Read moreShame on me for not having any pictures whenever we visit Harps. I don't usually go in to Dive bars but this is my only exception and the service and food is the reason why for that. Before the big renovation on the road the parking here can be tricky especially if its a busy night but ever since they had the road renovated they added few more parking on the side of the Harps.
I do believe that Harps is a staple for the Avondale, Riverside and Ortega neighborhood. When people comes here everyone knows everyone which is that's why you feel at home. Service here is always amazing! The servers here are so good and we never waited for our food for a long time.
Food: we ordered from spinach and dip to burgers , nachos and their caramel cheesecake but my favorite is the blackened fish! OH MY GOODNESS!! i can eat that everyday! very well seasoned and hot whenever I order it and the sauce that comes with it is just the icing on the cake, I am not sure what is the ingredients for that sauce all I know is they put soy sauce in there and it its the bomb! We never have any complaints on our food here it's always on point.
Harps have a decent size for the place, they have an outdoor seating area. If you haven't tried this amazing place this is the sign for you to go and order the blackened...
Read moreLooking for a comfortable and casual place for some American foods like burgers, paninis, salads, etc,..This is a cool place to go. Located just inside the Avondale area come as you are. We arrived just after lunch so we found front parking, plenty of booth and table seating available. The service was friendly and greeted us to seat where we wanted. We sat on the side of the outdoor seating area, but inside with the AC. The staff was prompt and efficient. The food was so so good! I was pleased to see that many of the breads were Sourdough. We had a party of six and there were NO leftovers on any of our plates. There was a jukebox but the music was not to loud that we could still hear one another talk. There a few TV's so you could watch the football games if desired. The wait for food was standard and well worth it. The prices were less then other joints and we were grateful for it, especially since the quality of our meal was excellent. Check out was smooth with multiple register stations. The waitress was friendly, warm, and personable. The portions on the plates were good. We ate the grill cheese panini, steamed broccoli, burgers, chicken nachos, fish sandwich and fries. The menu had a good variety of other items we have yet to try. I look forward to going...
