The last few times our orders have been messed up, and the service has gone downhill. The sushi is okay, but I don't think we'll be back after how things went tonight and our other recent visit. Score reduced to 3 stars
Some of the better sushi available in town and friendly staff. Not many exotic or premium (japanese) fish options but the normal options are top quality. Upgraded to 5 stars.
Previous review from 2016 below (4 stars)
Great sushi and nice people. The fish is excellent and we are still exploring their menu (vs some of our other Sushi go to spots). I will point out one negative: A new waitress left something off our order when we went in the 2nd time. Not only that, but then she handed us off to another waitress and left to go home for the night. When the manager found out, he was very nice and offered to take it off the check (expected) and give us a free Edamame appetizer. This is where I want to speak to management in the restaurant industry: If your customer ordered the soft-shelled crab appetizer and didn't get it; why would you think offering them a free edamame appetizer instead is going to make them happy? Too many Asian restaurants do that: Give you a free fried appetizer of some sort as a reward, when 80% of people don't want that. Especially in a case where what was ordered got left off.
So, thank you for offering something for free, but you should offer the item that was left off someone's order for free, not something else the customer didn't order.
While I am pointing out this one negative item, please know the majority of my interaction with Sushi Bear has been very positive. Nice people and quality sushi! I will continue to visit them as a change from my other...
Read moreWe went here after church. There was a group of about 10 of us, including children. It was the first time my daughter and I had been there. We were able to be seated as soon as we arrived. The table that we sat at gave us the availability to watch the football game on the televisions hanging over the serving area. Right away, our drink orders were taken. Once we received our drinks, soup was served. While we enjoyed our soup, we placed our sushi orders. I ordered the spicy crab roll. Pretty much everyone ordered sushi. Next, they took our food orders. My daughter and I ordered the steak and chicken with fried rice instead of noodles. The food is served in large portions. We also had a salad with either ginger or ranch dressing ( my daughter and I had ginger). Our drinks were refilled before they were completely empty. We received complimentary peas that were served with a hint of salt, steamed. They were steaming hot and delicious. We received those while waiting for our food. We also received a complimentary dessert. It was so good. I love chocolate, and it tasted like coffee. The sushi is delicious. We had a large boat for the sushi everyone ordered. It was a wooden boat, it was really cute. There were multiple servers that all made sure we were well taken care of. They filled every request (forks, special chop sticks, and such). It was a beautiful experience! I really enjoyed myself. I highly recommend...
Read moreComing back from downtown, I was trying to find a close by sushi place. I found this restaurant right off Roosevelt in a plaza. I saw it had very good reviews so I decided to try it. I was completely blown away by the service and the food. I ordered the sushi roll lunch special. They were able to make my California roll into a hand roll, which was very nice. And I ordered a shrimp tempura roll as well. I paired it with two yellowtail sashimi. My significant other ordered the steak hibachi lunch with fried rice. We both had our meals come with soup and salad. My soup was delicious. However, the ginger dressing for the salad was not good. We didn't finish them. We also received krab tempura for free which was a nice surprise. When my meal was brought out, I was astonished. I had never seen a sushi place make such an amazing presentation before like this restaurant. My handroll had its own little stand and my sashimi was in a bowl with a flower. It was so cute and thoughtful. The restrooms were clean, but the stalls were very small. Staff wore masks and cleaned tables quickly and while you were eating. We were also wished farewell by staff too. I will definitely be back. Two lunch specials plus my sashimi were less than $30. I was highly impressed. They also have a really cute wall mural with all kinds of messages and pictures and notes on it. It was called, wall of memories. It looks like some go...
