Rod's Crab Shack Monument — Restaurant in Jacksonville

I’ve come back to Florida after almost three years of living in the land of seafood goodness(Houston, Texas). I heard really good things about this spot and was excited to give it a try. Walking in my presence was not acknowledged, which I excused because someone was at the counter, but even after assistance to this customer the associate went to the back without saying a word. After his five minute smoke break, I guess, he reappeared with an attitude and said, “what do you want?” Admittedly, I made him wait on my response, to what he says, “let me know when you’re ready” and walks back behind, I guess for another smoke break. Another person walked in which he came out quickly and greeted. Finally I gave my order. I asked to see the food before put into carry bags, his response was, “ it looks the same as the display.” When I tell you it took everything in me to remain calm, he acted as if I should be happy with whatever I get like I’m not paying for it.. he proceeded to bag the food without showing me, I calmly opened they bag and trays that he placed on the counter before paying. His response to my action was to suck, his teeth, huff and puff, then offer to help someone else. Talk about Southern hospitality and great food at its finest!! Marco's superb customer service makes the experience worth every penny that you will send at this establishment. I moved to Florida this month and was craving the garlic seafood that I grew to love as a child during my summer visits. There were places closer to where I live but decided to go to Rod's because of a family recommendation. I definitely wasn't disappointed.

Upon arrival, my family and I were immediately greeted and made to feel welcomed. Marco showed me the specials for the day and explained their menu. After consideration, I decided on the special of a jumbo shrimp tray and snow crab leg tray. Along with a side tray which consists of the sausage, corn, hard boiled eggs and boiled red potatoes in the garlic sauce.

The seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection! I decided to get the trays cold and warm them once I arrived home. Marco wrote the ideal warming times on all the trays and also gave us complimentary sodas. EVERYTHING was delicious!! Needless to say, I will not hesitate to make the 40+ minute drive to Rod's whenever I'm in the mood for garlic seafood.

I used to go to this restaurant at least two or three times a week because they had daily lunch specials, reasonably priced, great customer service (the black guy that used to greet every female as "Queen") and when the food is fresh, it's really good. I stopped going there for about a year because my job relocated. However, on 5-1-25, I decided to stop in there. A HUGH DIFFERENCE! The original owner must have sold to new orders because the inside of the place is completely different and the worker there was not there in the past. BUT THE FOOD!! OMGGG, THE FOOD!! HORRIBLE!!! I ordered 2 pieces of fried fish and 6 pieces of fried shrimp. The fish was raw in the inside and the shrimp was partially cooked as well. Disappointed was an understatement. I immediately called and told the worker the fish was raw in the inside. I went back today for them to replace my order (no refunds allowed). AGAIN, THE SAME THING!!! Although the batter is brown and pretty (and taste pretty good) the inside of the fish is still raw.
