My wife and I were introduced to this great little bar and grill one Sunday when our once-a-month, after-church, lunch group met there. Although the place was busy and the size of our group exceeded the reservation our group leader had made, the manager and staff did everything they could to accommodate our extra members and seat them close to the main table.
My burger was among the best I've ever had (hot, juicy, flavorful & cooked-to-perfection) and the onion rings (my particular passion) were simply the best of all time.
Lia and I returned recently for a late weekday lunch-break while running errands. The place was about half full and thankfully free of the frantic atmosphere our expanded church group had caused. As such, we were treated to the full and unhurried attention of the manager and wait staff who made us feel welcome and genuinely appreciated.
A very nice young man named Max served us and (after seeing that we welcomed his company) returned to our table as much as possible to talk with us about the restaurant, its menu items and our mutual love of great food.
There were so many small but smart details about Bovine Burgers I can't mention them all, but having a napkin dispenser filled with quality product was a much appreciated touch considering the juicy burgers, fried finger foods and dipping sauces ... who likes having to ask for (and wait for) napkins while in the midst of a food frenzy?
In a similar vein, the two single-person restrooms are designated unisex rather than assigned to men and women. Why should you be away from your table waiting for your designated restroom when the other is completely free? Just another small but smart indication that every aspect of the customer's experience has been considered and addressed.

However…. If you like your burger to be anything other than well done, MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFY IT! I’m not used to having to specify medium rare at places that create their own patties, but here their policy is different. If you don’t specify, they default for medium-well (though in my experience it comes out well). Their high quality patties are insatiably delicious and juicy, but when cooked longer, seem to lose their taste and juiciness more quickly than other crafted patties I've had (over cooked imo, but medium-well/well done to others). Considering this, I’m not sure why their policy is to err on the well side of the spectrum instead of the rarer, but please, keep this in mind when ordering. They WILL NOT PROMPT YOU for how you want it cooked and I hate the idea of having food wasted (i almost want to order a beyond burger to see if that will be well done too—a patty which even comes in a package warning that the product should not be overcooked).
Anyway, the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. Front and back of house staff is comprised largely of hard working teenagers. Read moreI took a group of colleagues to Bovine Burgers today. Undoubtedly their food is always superb, but each of us today decided to try something new off the menu.
As usual, this place never fails to impress and surprise (always in a good way).
Let me tell you what distinguishes this place from your run-of-the-mill burger joint. It's a couple of key things.
First and foremost, it's the ingredients. They use nothing but high-quality ingredients, and I can tell. I was telling one of my colleagues today that they serve probably the best ground beef I've ever tasted.
Second, it's the service. I don't know what this owner does to create and maintain the kind of standards I see at work in this place, but the staff is always engaged, always focusing on getting it right, always friendly and always trying very hard to create an "experience" for you.
Finally, unlike most dining establishments of this type, the staff focuses on making sure you leave satisfied and happy. In fact, this is what one of my colleagues said today. He said, "the main reason I like coming here on a Friday afternoon, is that after a rough work week, I can count on leaving here happy." And I think that says it all.
