We we passing by Jamestown today on our way home from our trip out in New England. Searching for some place to eat brought up Allen Street Diner. The menu sounded great so we thought we would drive into Jamestown to try it. Boy am I glad we did!!!! We had the best time and food on our vacation there. I can not say enough about the owners. They were very helpful about describing the food , how they made it and that they bought as much as they could locally and not from the local food service. I started out with the chili made in house. It was meaty and very flavorful. Definitely not like out of a can. The fish was recommended to me. I love fried fish, this was at least a 6” to 7” piece of haddock 3/4 inch thick. Lightly coated with the right amount of seasoning. It was fried perfectly. For my sides I ordered the cabbage salad and the macaroni salad. I loved them both. I would chose the cabbage salad over cole slaw any time. The cabbage salad is more like a salad that is dressed with a mayonnaise base dressing. There is no vinegar and sugar in the dressing. The interior was clean and had a pleasing appearance. It brought back memories of resturants I would go to when I was growing up. My only regret is I wished we would be coming back this way so we could try more of the menu. We were to full to try...
Read moreWe were traveling through Jamestown around the lunch hour and as usual relied on fellow reviews on Google Reviews in order to find the Allen Street Diner. The restaurant front is near a busy corner on Allen St, and we made a mistake of parking behind the restaurant in what was apparently all reserved for a Drs office. The cook (I assume owner) did very politely warm me when we came in, that this might cause issues, which was nice - and gave me tips on where to park. I was able to then park right up front. The waitress also greeted us in a welcoming manner. The menu selection was typical lunch fare - burgers, sandwiches fresh cut fries and soup, etc. I did ask if I might order breakfast, (which was over a half hour before), and the cook immediately said sure (nice). However, our party ended up deciding on some varied sandwiches and fries. My son had an Italian hoagie, which was well made and on a bun that was very fresh. Mine was a grilled cheese that was perfectly executed. Buttery toasted fresh bread with just the right amt. of melted cheese. Fresh cut fries were very good. All in all, simple but very good, fresh food, properly priced and more than competently prepared in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Couldn't ask for anything more. I would recommend and would go back next time...
Read moreMy mom and I have come here multiple times. She is wheelchair bound and I have a walking disability. In the summer we ride around in electric wheelchairs and stop here for lunch. The owner is wonderful. Once he sees us at the door, he does everything he can to make it possible for us to get in. It is small so if he has to move tables he does. Most of the time he doesn't have to because although it is small, it is set up with some space between each table. It is has a unique decore with branches along the wall draped with lights. It is a different and appealing touch. They offer a lot of different food like wraps, burgers, different sandwiches, fish. My favorite is their homemade fries. I bring my service dog in with me and the server brings her water and the owner always offers her chicken. He gives her a big portion too. Just recently we ordered food to take out. With it being winter my mom and I are not riding around and we were craving something other than fast food. I called, ordered, and picked it up. Everything was packed up and just as delicious when we got home as it is when we eat in. I completely recommend...
