29 South Cafe — Restaurant in Janesville

This is such a sweet and quaint cafe. From the moment we stepped in we felt like we were in a cafe you might see in a french movie. We were greeted by a young woman who spoke to us like we had been customers for a long time and she shared what the specials were as well as the plethora of soups available. She was pleasant and seemed genuinely interested in helping us order something we would like. Our food arrived beautifully served and to our surprise, even was accompanied by fresh fruit as well our "sides." Everything was absolutely delicious, and so fresh. I loved the unique twist on the tuna salad - much more healthy than the mayo-infused kind normally served. The squash soup was outstanding. Everyone loved what they had ordered and we felt perfectly satisfied in terms of portion and taste. We saved room for dessert as the bakery selection was amazing, making choosing difficult. We ordered a few and shared with one another and again, was so impressed. This is the place to go whether getting together with friends, family, or even to have a little shower or work party. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast as we wanted to support a locally owned downtown business. We were not acknowledged when we walked in so we just sat down. The waitress asked the people behind me if they wanted coffee. I was excited to hear there was a coffee bar. The waitress still did not acknowledge us. After several minutes we were given menus but not asked if we would like something to drink. I watched and heard the waitress carry on a personal conversation with a woman that walked in but was not a customer. Now we were sitting there for about 10 minutes. 2 ladies came in and wanted to purchase baked goods and the waitress did say people are waited on in the order they came in. She then took the order of the people behind me and walked away. We still had nothing to drink or asked if we were ready to order. Some of the best food in Janesville. I would come here simply for the healthy choices. Other places in Janesville that call themselves a cafe aren't very quality oriented where as 29 is very quality oriented . you pay for what you get now days ..... Wisconsin is a cafe type place ... This is a wonderful place to have a meeting. .. Great pastry items .. Amazing gourmet treats and great coffee flavors. Any negative ratings for this place come from People who want cheap food with large portions. . Thats not 29. . good food isn't cheap and is never in large portions. . come check it out ... Its worth it . dont expect a massive meal . expect a quality meal . its much more satiafying. Don't listen to ratings that talk as if they would have rather went to McDonald's.
