An Irish bar for any night of the week! As you enter the bar you are greeted by beautiful wooden bar immediately on your right. The decor was consistent with the theme and done very well. Most Irish pubs feel cartoonish, but O'Riley & Conway's felt authentic.
The bartender sat us immediately in a rear section of the pub. Our tall wooden booth gave more privacy and made our dinner feel more intimate. The table was closer to the bench than I am used to but wasn't uncomfortable to sit in. On our Saturday evening visit there was live music playing in the bar area.
The menu has Irish traditions, with a few that felt a bit domestic. There should be something on the menu to feed most cravings; even a few vegetarian options. The menu is accessible on their website and contains accurate descriptions of all the food.
They do have a strong showing of the most popular Irish and domestic beer, a good amount of them even local. Whiskey and Scotch whiskey have their own menus and are also available on the website. Those serious about quality beer, scotch, or whiskey will be delighted by the depth of those offerings.
The service was attentive and both entrees arrived exactly as ordered. The portions were large and everything arrived hot and on time. The fries are recommended as they had a light seasoning and a crisp outside. A few stops during the meal to check that everything is proper makes one feel right at home.
Overall this pub is a delight and worth the visit. It has great charm with a lot to offer it's guests. This pub is a great option even when it's not St....
Read moreTo start... Hey Carl F, who gives a hell how Irish it is? It's actually a NICE place in Janesville compared to the "dive bars" that pretty much categorizes every other bar in this town (disclaimer: I actually enjoy dive bars too, so I'm not passing judgment). And unlike every other bar in town, it actually serves GOOD food that isn't just made on a fryer! And broken tiles???? Really????? Cmon, that's a nit picky stretch of things to blast them on. I'm gonna venture to say that you sleep alone at night because your ex wife couldn't stand how fickle and angry you were. Just a hunch.
Now the reasons I come here. The food (whether true Irish or not) is actually very well done! The Reuben is amazing. Shepard's pie is pretty good as well. The beer selection is the BEST in town and always rotating. It's not cheap though at $5 or so a piece for craft in JANESVILLE, which seems a little steep. But considering there's probably not a lot of craft distributors willing to deliver such a variety to a town like Janesville, they prob pay a fortune to get such a selection. So I don't complain about paying that amount for GREAT beer. The bartenders are also very friendly, esp the Wednesday night girl.
The biggest reason to come here is on Wednesday nights to listen to DAVE POTTER TRIO who is, from a technical standpoint, the most amazing blues/jazz band I've ever heard. What soul they have, and really just amazing musicians. I hardly ever miss a Wednesday I'm in town.
I will continue to be a repeat customer! Thanks for being Janesville's...
Read moreWent for lunch at a quiet time, 1:30pm. Didn't order alcoholic drinks but they have a full array it looks like. Nice menu online at their website. The Reuben soup is excellent. I've never had Reuben soup before. I particularly like the Earl Grey tea. Very fragrant and tasty. The service was excellent. Our waitress was Kim. She was very good. Just right attention. She came back to offer more hot water for the tea or if we wanted anything else. The tomato basil soup was very good too. We each had the spinach feta salad with our choice of dressing. It was a decent portion and was appealing to the eye. We sat in a booth but there are stools at the bar also. The booths are cozy, surrounded on both backs and one side so it's nearly private seating. There's vintage pictures on the walls of yesteryear to enjoy if you like. The music and atmosphere was quiet when we first arrived but we tarried talking and it started to fill up about 4pm and it picked up in noise and activity. There were posters stating live music events. I've never been there except for lunch on a weekday. The prices are average and what you see being charged around Janesville. The parking could be a problem but there is a free parking lot just at the corner of Jackson and Milwaukee so you'd only have to walk about 4 doors down to the restaurant. I will definitely return to O'Riley...
