Update: After a recent visit I've sadly had to take away my 5 star review. While I still enjoy this restaurant for BBQ and pizza, they have made some serious mistakes. This weekend my husband and I decided to try a prime rib special. Service wasn't great, but it was busy so understandable. But the prime rib was terrible. Came out well done, tough, and grey looking (like it had been sliced then sat under a warmer steaming away). Flavor actually wasn't bad, but after sawing through the shoe leather for one bite we sent both of them back and asked if we could just get some pulled pork sandwiches instead (something we knew we liked and figured would be easy for the kitchen). Well, long story short, by the time we'd finished our sides, drinks, and still didn't have sandwiches, we just canceled them and they had the manager talk to us. While I appreciate how they settled the bill, I still take issue with two things that resulted in me changing my review. No one should EVER treat such an expensive cut of beef so terribly. The manager claimed they don't have a license to serve undercooked meat, so that was how they had to serve it. If that's the case I honestly don't think they should be serving that on their menu ever. Or at least have waiters give a warning about it. It was explained to us that since they were so busy there was a 45 wait time for food when we sent our meat back and asked for something else. And that was why our replacement meals weren't ready until we were ready to leave. I call BS on this. I've worked in restaurants, and if something is sent back that takes priority. It is not sent to the back of the ticket line. That is no way to run a kitchen.
Original 5 star review: We loved Pub N Grub when they first started at Patoka Lake, and they just keep impressing us in Jasper. Not only is the food delicious, but they are really smart about running a business. We visited once in person before covid, and were impressed at how they updated the restaurant space. Now they are making take out super easy too! We called in our order, drove across town, and when we got there just walked in and grabbed the bag with...
Read moreI stopped by Jasper Pub 'N' Grub with some family while I was in town to grab some lunch. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the spicy barbecue sauce and onion rings. I had an unsweet tea to drink. The pork was good, but seem to already have some kind of sauce on it kind of like what you find in the tubs of barbecue at the grocery store. It was certainly better than that, but my preference is something a little more pedestrian. I like the pork to be smoked and marinated in its own juices with just some simple seasonings like salt and pepper. All that said, the spicy barbecue sauce was very good and added a fantastic flavor to the pork. The onion rings were okay, but nothing unique. The only problem we had was my tea. Maybe it's unusual for people to order unsweet tea here, but I kept getting sweet tea on my refills and had to ask for unsweet tea each time. Overall not a bad restaurant and I may return and try something different the next time...
Read moreMy brother Scott is the pit boss there. My nephew Bert does various things there and my nephew Riley is there part-time. Excellent food. Helps to know they've got the right person with all the passion in the world of cooking and grilling and smokin up the best meats.
The service was awesome. One primary server with the entire team of servers helping to get the food to tables in good time and I cannot complain about any of the entire experience.
The gentlemen singing at the open mic sounded terrific and most of us at our table of 9 sang right along with them... at our own table, of course. They provided everyone with an entertaining atmosphere and we enjoyed it all.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience and a wonderful time. 💗
Ps... the brisket, pulled pork sandwiches, and chicken wings - HIGHLY...
