If you like cold, flavorless meats smothered in sweet sauces, then you'll like this BBQ joint. We're from Texas, and that won't cut it. We ordered the Boss Hog so we could taste everything. It was $34 and arrived cold. The booth we were sitting in had a cold wind that further chilled off the food. Ratings for each of the items we had (1-5, with 5 being real good BBQ) Brisket: 2 - flavorless and dry Turkey: 2 - flavorless and dry Pork: 3 - good enough flavor, but also dry Sausage: 4 - hard to screw up sausage; it was pretty good because it had some flavor. Ribs: 4 - only meat that had any smoke flavor. Grits; 10 - Yes. They're the best thing we ate. Coleslaw: 4 - a little heavily dressed for my taste, but flavorful. Sauces: God Bless Texas: 4 - best of the options but not really authentic. Carolina: 2 - sweet and mustardy. KC sweet: 2 - sweet like candy Hot sauce...sorta : 1- vinegar. Not even hot. No one asked us how our food was once while we were eating, so we couldn't tell the management about our experience. We get that we've been spoiled by really great BBQ in Texas, but just be warned that if others have been having great experiences here, they may not have actually had good...
Read moreLast Sunday we decided to try this place for the first time. We called them 6 times between 6-6:30 and finally got someone to answer so we could place a carry-out order. Before he was able to place the order, the young man on the phone asked my husband how soon he would be picking the order up because they were "probably going to close soon". According to their posted hours they weren't supposed to be closing soon. My husband said he could be there in 15 minutes as long as they had our order for 4 people ready to go. The employee took my husband's phone number and the order. My husband drove there only to be informed that they were "out of a bunch of stuff" so when my husband started offering to change the orders to things they DID have they told him "we can't fulfill any orders". I sure wish they would have called us to inform us before we drove there. I do not understand why they would not make our orders since there were only 2 people at the bar and no other patrons in the restaurant. We won't be trying them again, apparently they don't...
Read more"Where's the beef?" I ordered the combo pick 2 meats $18.50. I got two slices of turkey & two slices of brisket about the size of a strip of bacon. 1/2 of the brisket was fat. Another place I got to, you get 1/2 pound of brisket for $16. This wasn't even a 1/4 pound of meat. Thankfully, I got a lot of fries & beans & a piece of toast. Without those generous portions, I'd be hungry.
My wife got the brisket nachos or, as she put it, brisket soup. I dont know if it was a combination of the toppings or what, but it was soaking wet & the chips were useless.
My kids shared a slab of ribs. The ribs were huge. An actual slab of ribs. They enjoyed them.
They have soda, tea, and water. The tea was old & tasted bad. Missouri has a ton of BBQ options & price points. For the portion sizes, the prices were high. The food tasted good, but I'm not going to seek this place out again. Life...
