This is sort of a blast from my past. About 60 years ago I would walk by this corner every day on my way home from school. I would take the bus that costed me a whopping 12 cents to ride with a free transfer. Yes you read that right.
The bus back then we're run by electricity so you had these long polls that shot up and hooked into or onto the electric wire that ran down the street in the rightmost lane.
So although it didn't cost a great deal on money you need to remember that thing were differently priced back then to. The staples like a can of corn, peas and other vegetables were only 10 cents. Wow!
So for years I passed the corner of Milwaukee and California and watched the cars come out of a gas station. It was a Sinclair gas station. That station eventually closed and the building was modified into the current restaurant you'll find there today called the Cozzy Corner.
For years the gentleman worked the restaurant trying to build his business. He was always the one to give you a little extra food if you were still hungry just to make sure you left his restaurant with a full tummy.
Well he has since retired and in his dust he built a total of 4 restaurants.
I don't know about two of the ones he owns but the one on Milwaukee and California along with the one near Higgins on Harlem are two of the better restaurants in their neighborhood.
The prices are pretty reasonable for what you get and the service is good to. There's one gentleman who came over from Sally's to work with the new restaurant. He's the gentleman that fills your coffee, helps bring food to the table, and as usual, makes sure you enjoy your visit.
This is well...
Read moreI have been coming to Cozy Corner on Harlem Ave for more than two years. Initially was reasonable, good service, friendly and quick. Food was ok. I visited 2-3 times a week. Today ,when I went to pay the bill, the cashier repeatedly used my card and was impatient for the processing to complete, resulting in my card being charged twice. She called over Alex, the manager, to resolve the issue and he swiped my card again. However, since I transferred a limited amount of money to that card, it only processed a portion on top of the already full charged amount. He became loud and rude and accusatory...it was my fault because the card was bent and I didn't have enough money. Well, I opened my bank app and proved that I was charged twice. He still said well this is what you paid, a portion. He constantly interrupted, humiliated and talked down to me. Called his superior and they must have somehow cancelled one payment and I then paid the difference for the second payment. This is not the first time I had problems with being charged twice there! You would think he had better conflict resolution with longstanding customers. This is the last straw. Now I will take my money elsewhere. Today, I ordered the usual steak and eggs and coffee. Steak was dry, toast crust is always hard and impossible to bite, hash browns dry. Condiments wouldn't be a necessity if the food was good. Servers are mostly great, but a few are careless and sourpusses. Only a few. Receipt and Google search doesn't come up with any owner, corporate, complaint, recourse info. So apparently the public voice is quashed except...
Read moreBrought a party of 4 in on a Sunday at 12:30pm for the first time at this restaurant. The parking lot was intimidating and nearly full but we found a spot within 5 minutes and they offer complimentary valet parking on Fridays & Saturdays. Within that 5 minutes, I stopped in to check the wait time since we had no reservation. Michael greeted us, looked around and found a corner table that had just opened up. He could seat us if we had the whole party together. I walked out to grab them and came back to him waiting for us and brought us to the comfy corner booth.
We were promptly greeted with waters & menus. Our server, Alex, arrived shortly after and was full of positive energy and ready for our questions and orders. I ordered the 2x2 with bacon and found the eggs to have the fluffiest texture and taste. Others had short stacks, corned beef & hash and the french toast. Nothing but positive reviews.
The food was appropriately priced, service was prompt & exceptionial and coffee refills were a plenty. Alex was everything you can ask for in a server and made the whole experience worth it.
Having worked in the restaurant industry a third of my life I like to give credit where it's due. The staff at this location was superb, food was great and I'll definitely be back...
