I was unfairly terminated from my esthetics program at Tricoci University of Beauty Culture in Norwood Park, IL on November 15th, 2021—two days before my graduation date. On November 11th, 2021, my esthetics educator, Kelly Lyle wrongfully accused me of shoving her and calling her a profane term in an area with NO cameras, and NO form of concrete evidence proving that I assaulted her in any way. A completely accidental run-in that took place in a narrow hallway led Ms. Lyle to tell Tricoci University’s management team a falsified and dishonest story about my actions. This educator ranges anywhere from 300-400 pounds, standing at 5’5”, while I am a mere 125 pounds at 5’1”. Even if inflicting violent behavior toward this particular educator were my intent, I would have not been able to make any real dangerous impact due to the differences in our sizes and strength. Still, Ms. Lyle made claims that she felt unsafe at her place of employment, which has led to me being unable to complete my course at this campus.
Since the day that I was terminated from my program, I have fought aimlessly to make sure that I could be heard by the right individuals, in order to get back into my program to complete my 20 remaining hours. Tricoci University has made this virtually impossible for me. My institutional grants were taken away from me. Before I began my schooling, my appointed financial aid advisor made sure to accommodate my low-income situation. These accommodations have been forfeited. I now am expected to pay over 3-thousand dollars out of pocket if I wish to transfer my 733 credits to a further Tricoci University campus. Let me say again, I have 20 remaining hours in my esthetics course. I have two days remaining before I reach 750 hours, which would make me a Certified Esthetician in the state of Illinois.
I am the daughter of a disabled mother, living in the outskirts of Chicago, and my opportunity at Tricoci University was my personal commitment and effort to escape the poverty line and strive for better. The beauty industry is an extremely lucrative market, but more than that, it is my dream. I deserve this opportunity just as much as the next student, and just as much as this educator who continues to walk freely in her workplace after lying about my actions and hindering me of the chance to make a stable living.
I am writing this statement because I have been intimidated by Tricoci University’s management team to be silent. Throughout my educational journey, I was told to be silent by multiple educators—during class lessons, and even in instances where I was bullied by fellow classmates and desperately needed support and guidance. This time, I am seeking the support of anyone who sees this. I’d appreciate if this could be shared out, to protect any future students, and relate to any individuals who have suffered this level of emotional damage by their institution.
Furthermore, I am hoping that I can gain the attention of the local media, to notify Tricoci University that you do not terminate innocent students without properly investigating the incident at hand. I am highly disappointed in these circumstances, but I am not...
Read moreI know this is place is a beauty school. However, where was the instructor?
I had been to a similar place and the instructor was guiding the student. My experience was completely opposite to this. Students decided what to do, how to do it and one student was teach the other one, teacher instruction was minimal.
I am not a beautician but I was doubting them. I could see that they were making mistakes. Did the teacher show up? No I rarely saw the instructor. None was there to say remember first this, then this or this is the way it should be done, this is your time frame, etc.
Well you can imagine my night mare when they were done. It was AWFUL! and my hair had so many colors. These girls that did my hair did not know what they were doing. They did not how to blow dry hair, work the equipment in the saloon or what kind of shampoo or products to use.
My hair was three colors one on top, one in the middle and one the bottom. Judging by how many students were doing nothing, I realized this is why they are not busy. They do not have guests to come and get services or experiment on. This is why I was offered a facial when I entered.
Another instructor came to teach one of the girls how to cut hair. WORST hair cut done by someone who said that she had 40 years of experience. She pulled my hair, it hurt, pricked me. She was rude.
At the end, the “turquoise instructor” saw me and said beautiful color. I was like “you are lying, how can be this beautiful” it’s the WORST hair color I have ever had in my life.
At the check out, they offered me with a vip package extra $20 to come back. Why would I be go back there? I should not have to pay, this was really bad. Two teenagers doing my hair.
If you are considering going to beauty school DO NOT go there. You can’t go to a place where irresponsible teachers let you do whatever with customers. You should pay for a place where you truly get taught and trained. If you are considering a serious career. You can’t go to a place where the teacher humiliates u in front of a customer. That’s not teaching or training.
Do not ever use this place to do any service as a customer.
They might ruin your hair, overcharge you, ruin your skin or do something awful. If they truly care of the quality of stylists that they graduate. They will have qualified teachers and protocols to do the services they offer. Monitor and be more careful acknowledging they have students being supervised by “teachers”.
The problem is not the students, the problem is the program they are running little instruction, guidance, monitoring and involvement. Do Not waste your money and time.
This was my first time and it is last. Very irresponsible instructors, they are not teachers, a teacher guides and inspirers, a teacher is...
Read moreThis is a review as a client who has gone to get her hair done at least 4 time here. I've gotten extremely complex hair dyes done and each time it comes out 90% of not 100% close to what I ask for. When I call, there is always an answer on the phone , and they are courteous and friendly here. The students are very friendly and kind and funny. As a young 20 year old, triccoci is a good place for college students on a budget .
What a lot of people don't understand is that triccoci may not be the best place for older people who are very very particular about their hair & who are Karen's. If you have one specific way of doing your hair and are intolerant of compromise , triccoci is not for you. If you are open minded to working out a compromise for your request , this is the place for you.
Sometimes when you ask for a certain hair color, it may not always be possible due to damaged hair or hair texture. That is something I have had to face here, but I work it out with the stylists and we get to something close. It always turns out great.
I have seen many Karen's there before , and the students are honestly doing their best and really involved. They're not as lazy and unprofessional and some may make them out to be. The instructors are nice to me, Sarah has been nothing but kind to me as a POC woman, though I understand I cannot speak on behalf of everyone's experience.
Last time I went to get my hair done was very time efficient and economical. I had two students , Adrian and Jocelyn, do my chunky highlights and it turned out great. The instructor on sight was named Vanessa or Valerie I believe. She is new and she is extremely kind and smart.
When I come, they always offer me water consistently and ask if I need anything. Being kind to stylists and staff and being patient goes a long way. working in a busy retail environment , I know how hard it can be to keep a cheery face and answer every call all the time.
I love coming here for cheap but awesome hair services. In terms of going to school here, the students do often complain to me about rude instructors or drama. Last time I got my hair done , a students boyfriend came to cause some trouble which shook up the place. If students are confiding in me as a client , something should ve done to ensure safety. I'm relaxed enough not to get uncomfortable building friendships with the students , but it does concern me how often they lament of unsafe conditions or lack of regiment in...
