I recently went with my friend to the restaurant Faiza Chicago, and for a long time our friends had told us that the food there was amazing. They were absolutely right. We ordered dapandji and plov. The portions were unbelievably huge, which made us really happy. We happily ate the dapandji and were already full, but we still tried the plov. The plov was also great. When we arrived, it was very busy, and we didn’t want to be fussy, so we just asked for any available table. They greeted us warmly and seated us at a very large table. After the main area cleared up, we asked to move to a smaller table, which they accommodated by seating us near the door. They took our order, and everything was fine, but since the door was open, I asked the server to close it. He was great and immediately closed it before taking our order.
We had to wait a little longer for the drinks, and they served the samsa we ordered first, which was incredible, but ideally drinks should be served before the food. We had our salad and received our meal, which was all delicious. However, the door was opened again, and I asked the server to close it. I was surprised when he responded that I could close the door myself instead of him doing it. The server left, and the door remained open, with a cold draft blowing on my back, which was very uncomfortable. It was especially disappointing that he wouldn't even let me get up to close it myself.
After we finished eating, which was very tasty, we asked our server to bring us containers. Just as he did, the staff once again opened the door, causing a lot of discomfort, with the cold air making it unpleasant. They could have kept the door closed until we left. When we received the bill, the server rudely expressed that he preferred getting tips in cash rather than through the system. I was surprised by the rude manner in which he said this. As someone who knows what it's like to get tips, I always leave a tip, but the server could have communicated his preference more politely, making it clear that he meant no harm. Instead, he was quite rude about it, which I really didn't appreciate. As requested, we tipped him in cash, and then we just left. I think they definitely need to work on their service here, but the food is simply amazing. I'll come back for the food, for the dapandji, but definitely not for...
Read moreDissapointed, the food was not good at all. We ordered a lot ( Plov, Jarovnya, Dapanji, Shashlik variety, Lepeshki, Vastochnii Salad, Fries )
Plov - too oily, was served cold, and was not a restuarant quality plov. Lepeshki - not hot, and was not cooked all way thru, because inside was a bit doughy and chewy. Shashlik - we ordered beef and lamp chops, the beef kind was awful, served very cold, definetly was not fresh grilled, tasted a bit raw. The chops were supper dry.
The rest of the order was too salty and overall not good. We noticed that some of plates and cups were dirty, which we told the service right a way. And the tea was not good at all, we ordered tea with fruits and it was awful, supposed to be easiest thing to serve is bread and tea and both were not good… Did not want to be too rude, just wanted to give honest review /opinion because I know there are many of us who read the reviews, etc. Sad knowing that the place has been open for only 4 days and already has so many negative feedbacks. We difinetly had high expectations. There are other better...
Read moreEver since we heard it was coming to the neighborhood we've been very excited to come visit. Our first experience was a Sunday lunch and it was lovely. Staff is kind and welcoming and had great recommendations. Descriptions on the menu are limited but they're happy to explain dishes as needed--or just give them a google! The food was delicious, every bite! We tried each type of samsa and this was the perfect way to start the meal. I had the boso lagman fried which came in a grand portion. The meat is so tender, the flavors so bold and tasty, I'd strongly recommend for newcomers to the cuisine. My partner had the borsch which was home-y, gentle, and aromatic, a perfect fit for a cold day. We paired the food with their fruity compote drink which was sweet and easy to love--good for fans of pomegranate and hibiscus agua fresca. We also had a pot of black tea which is a must, and the perfect way to end the meal. We're already talking about when we'll be going...
