Everything here is a must try! Between the amazing peaceful atmosphere, the quick and attentive service, delicious food, and the Authentic Japanese dishes you can't find anywhere nearby in the states... It's WELL worth the visit. Agedashi Tofu: Carefully served in multiple dishes. Silky soft fried tofu in a light sauce. Edamame was nice, crispy, and lightly salted to taste. Boston Maki was large, flavorful, and surprisingly light for all the fresh ingredients packed in. Lastly... The Beef Sukiyaki. Absolutely delicious and warm for the body on a cold day of walking around Chicago. You won't find this dish in most Japanese restaurants you go to. But it's worth the trip by itself. Besides the complimentary soup, salad, and unique side dishes... The service was top notch. With multiple waitresses attending to our table to make sure we wanted for nothing, the biggest surprise was the warm towel we received as soon as we sat down. All in all... I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to come try the place out, and make sure to say hi to Bonnie when you're there!

There’s a reason for not going to these hip new sushi restaurants now and it’s simple quality. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in Chicago and this place is the foundation. I’ve been coming here for 18 years and it’s always the best. The best of class in fresh/ best cuts of sushi. They don’t serve subpar sushi. Everything is perfect big cuts and beautiful. Love this place and even the udon soup dishes and Katsu as well as everything is awesome. You can tell a great restaurant by the sides as well. They are excellently executed. The miso soup and salad and ginger green beans are all great! This is my go to place for sushi and more. They don’t hide their quality with eel sauce and mayos even know they do use them. Love this place and their service and chef!

One of our usual lunch spots. Place has been around for decades and that should be a pretty good indication of the ownership doing something right. I like the traditional outfits that the waiting staff wears and overall atmosphere. Tables and chairs could use some updating. Food is not cheap but good. Some might say that you get a lot of bang for your buck, but if you're paying attention, you're paying a lot of money for cheap fillers (rice, fried vegetables, etc.) but not that much actual proteins (fish or meat). Also, some of the rolls are huge where you can't even put them in your mouth and since you only get chopsticks (for if you specifically request), eating there might get really messy.

I was excited, ended up hugely disappointing. Extremely rude service, horrific experience.

We were looking for a japanese restaurant with a more authentic japanese feel to make our regular spot (we love japanese food), and ended up here a couple of weeks ago. We got there 1hr and 10min before closing, and were ready to make it as quick as possible. There were a couple of other tables occupied. Walking in the place looks inviting, with private party rooms on the sides with tatami and decorations looking nice.

We were not done sitting down when the waitress says "we close in an hour, you know?", to which we replied yes we do, we will make it quick. She hands over the menus and walks away. Literally behind her, another waitress walks the step it took for her to get to our table from where she was, and says "what are you having, what are you having?". We have not even opened the menus, not even grasped it with two hands to open it. We try our sweetest voice and explain we only need 2min to look over the menu, to which she replies, in a rude voice "we close in 45min, are you going to order?" (remember what I said, 1hr & 10min?). We just looked at each other with disbelief and looked down at the menu while explaining again, we will make it quick. Looking back, we should have just walked out.

About a minute and a half pass and she comes back, again rude, trying to rush us. We order the first thing that comes to mind. Food comes and the waitress stayed hovering around our table, taking away the soup and salad bowls before we even put it back down on the table. This whole treatment made us incredibly uncomfortable and we decided to just ask for to-go boxes. She comes back with them, and the bill, and stands next to our table waiting for it. Again, she does not even let us put down the plates or utensils before she snatches them from us and takes them away.

We paid, took our food to finish at our homes, feeling like that was one of the strangest and worst service we have gotten at a restaurant ever. We don't even remember the food or how it was. If you cannot take clients anymore, let us know at the door, and we will leave to find some place else. Though an hour and 10min should be enough for someone to eat, if you don't want anymore business that day, let us know, instead of treating us like...

Today 2/6/25 my family and I dined at this restaurant. The lady server offered us if we want to eat in a japanese style private room or just the table outside. We chose the private room. The moment we sat down, we were hearing a guy scolding the lady server telling her why you offered the private room to them, private rooms are only for 6 people above. My family and I didn’t pay attention and proceeded with ordering our food and ate our dinner. One old lady arrived (we think that’s the owner or manager), then again the lady server got scolded again for offering and sitting us in the private room. I told the waitress if there is any problem with us sitting here because the sit was offered to us and we didn’t know about the rules for that private room. We will comply to the rules if they told us from the start that it’s for 6 people above. My thing here is, that old lady and whoever that guy is were very rude. I’m a Japanese national wanting to eat Japanese food in a restaurant that were served by non Japanese people. Those people (the old lady and that guy) were shameless because if you want to offer an authentic japanese experience, you should be respectful to the customers. Japanese people in general our well mannered people and do not tolerate disrespect. The waitresses are...
