Seeing all the glowing reviews and passing the restaurant most every day, I wanted to take a chance on what could be a hidden gem on the NW side. I have tempered my expectations of sushi fusion restaurants to be realistic and not expectant of sushi bar quality, but this was rough.

Food was prepped incredibly fast, which is great, right on the minute of the expected time. Staff was friendly when I arrived to pick up my order. So zero issues with the staff here 👍🏻

The sushi however, was difficult to eat. I had ordered a sushi combo, and a few rolls. What I found with the nigiri was that the rice was still too hot for putting the sashimi over it, by the time I got the order home the fish was room temp-to-warm, which only highlighted every other flaw of the fish. Pieces of hamachi and salmon had chewy and gummy textures, the tuna was ok, but the escolar made me 'hurk'.

The rolls were fine, the spicy salmon definitely seems a bit 'off'. I understand that spicy salmon making is a roll to use scraps but maybe it was pushing the limit of when the scraps came from?

The one positive note about the food was that they are generous with using real crab, and the miso soup was very good.

With many options in the area, I can't say I'll take the chance...

We've been there dozens of times now. I'm reading the veeeeery few negative comments about stuff not being fresh or bad service and can't understand what restaurant they were in. They literally make the rice and prepare the meals in front of you. And for the person that claims that a smoothie was dropped and the waitress said they'd charge again if they redid it, there's no way that happened. The staff would have bent over backwards to please her and probably given it free. I was there the day that review was posted and we just had the restaurant check who purchased smoothies on the supposed date. They confirmed on the cameras that everything went well and no smoothies were dropped. People need to stop lying just to stick out. The spot isn't perfect, but it's great quality, great price, great attention, and they'll change the music for you if you don't like it. All you have to do is ask and you'll see that that family and crew are amazing! Aw man, I just texted myself into wanting to go back to dinner there tonight. Oh, and try the bowls....

This was without a doubt the best sushi I have ever had and I’m 67! We started off with appetizers of crab Rangoon and chicken wings. I know, at a sushi restaurant chicken wings?! The wings were delicious, but the sauce they serve with the wing was unbelievable, unbelievable!! The crab Rangoon‘s are sometimes cream cheesy tasting these were crab tasting with just a subtle taste of cream cheese. I haven’t even gotten to the rolls. Amazing, did I say amazing?! I cannot even describe the feeling in my mouth as I tasted each one of the four different rolls that we purchased. I will post pictures. I would talk for about an hour about the different textures the spicy, the sweet, the crunchy! This place is a must go to. I drove from Oak Park and traffic down Cicero Avenue and will be a regular. I didn’t get the chef’s name but had time to chat with the owner, Guam. I’ll let him tell you about the amazing cuisine!!!

I loved...

My family and I went to dinner at Fresh sushi Chicago this Saturday. The food as well as the service were exceptional! My family and I have been eating sushi for over 30 years, and we pride ourselves on being knowledgeable and even sometimes "sushi snobs". Fresh Sushi Chicago absolutely exceeded all of our expectations! Guam, one of the owners was very helpful in making suggestions on what we should try. He even let me try a sample of their incredible seared salmon nigiri which I absolutely fell in love with. This charming restaurant lived up to its name with truly FRESH sushi and a variety of delightful flavors. Thank you for a wonderful night with happy full bellies and lots of smiles!
