First we came in on a Sunday at 11:45am and We did have a large party of 9. Our expectations were tempered bc we figured wed have to wait. So my group was shocked when they said we can seat you in 5 min. But that seems to be where the goodwill ended. We were seated on the Tavern side and the bartender was a bit rid and short to begin with. We found it funny that they weren't allowed to serve water. They only offered bottled water and when asked why it was because straws and lemons could become contaminated. Yet later on when they brought a sodas they gave us straws and lemon for the diet Cokes. We all had a good laugh about that one. There was only 1 other table with a group of 4 and two gentlemen sitting at the bar. While we understood that the diner side was busy we did not expect an hour wait just for our food. Unfortunately the bartender did have to keep going around the bar back and forth to check on things but still the excuse was only given that they have one kitchen. Now most restaurants only have one kitchen so we weren't sure how the applied. One by one each person's meal came out so by the time the next meal came out the previous person was done eating. You can imagine this wasn't very conducive to dining out especially with children. What upset is the most was the gentleman who appeared to be one of the cooks tried to say that our food only took 30 minutes. Yet we had been sitting for an hour and 15. After they were a bit rude and sarcastic about our wait all of our food did eventually come out. Unfortunately items are missing things were wrong so then we had to wait a bit longer.
The two things that upset us most were there was no apology ever given just excuse after excuse about why we should be understanding. And a second group of gentlemen came in apparently knew one of the hosts and got their food within 10 minutes. When asked how was that possible we were advised oh well they called in their food ahead. So if your kitchen is already swamped and you have people waiting an hour why are you allowing call ahead pushing their food back even further?
It's unfortunate because at the end the same gentleman who made the excuses and tried to make us feel as though we were being uncooperative. Then tried to offer us complimentary drinks and dessert. I say it's unfortunate because the damage was already done after the sarcasm the rudeness and the all-around inhospitable nature. Overall the food was good but the experience of...
Read moreFor 37 years I have lived in Jefferson and once in a blue moon go to this dinner. It's really bad! I don't know why I ever give it another chance. I never mind paying for good food but to pay almost $50 for a terrible breakfast really bothers me. Let's start with the menu. It's utterly ridiculous!!! Who needs a 15 page menu that looks like a scrapbook of pictures. Honestly no one cares to see the family pictures. One would be enough. I would much rather have a small menu with good food rather than 15 pages of lousy expensive food and pictures. We all know Guy Fieri was in the diner for years now. He goes to a lot of diners and dives but doesn't mean there good. Any diner should at least be able to make eggs, you would think. My omelet was so dried out. Not the first time, oh and by the way don't bother asking them not to overcook it. You'll waste your breath!! Worse yet is the home fries, they taste like they've been soaking in water all day. Absolutely no taste. This place needs to listen to constructive criticism. I have given them a similar review a couple years ago and they seem to think there food is wonderful. They are lucky they have no competition in the area. Another thing WHO voted this best diner in New Jersey. Every diner in New Jersey says voted best diner in New Jersey. This is exactly what I mean about the owners. They cannot take constructive criticism. They try to tell me I'm an unhappy person. Actually I am a very happy person that has a great life. People that write reviews help people that are looking for good food. I read reviews all the time and they are usually right. I have no reason to down your business. I wish you the best but dry omelets and watery home fries are not usually what people are...
Read moreThis message is for Nick "one of the owners". I just read Henry's review. He went out of his way to say even though he felt uncomfortable from the stares of the PATRONS, THE STAFF was very friendly and it wasn't their fault. The only thing you had to say to him was the staff is not racist and you have black kitchen staff members. Before you reply to him that no one who works for you is racist how about you say "sorry you felt uncomfortable but that doesn't reflect ownership or staff and we welcome you back anytime" Sounds to me like you should worry more about the under cooked food than making sure everyone knows you hire black people to work in your kitchen and maybe 1 waiter (even though I doubt it) His review was to warn other black people that if they go to your diner for breakfast they might encounter a bunch of white dudes in the parking lot who have more respect for a stupid muscle car than they have for another human being. Also he warned about the under cooked food, can't forget the under cooked food! I'll leave you with your response to a white patron who posted the french onion soup was too salty. "Thank you for sharing. We apologize part of you meal was too salty. Our manager on duty would have been happy to correct the situation if they were given the opportunity. Come back soon and give us another opportunity to make your experience a perfect one". Henry wasn't asked to come...
