Great food, classic Jamaican energy just a little too raw at times. MB’s Caribbean Grill delivers solid, flavorful Jamaican food in a no-frills, authentic setting. The curry goat was tasty but could’ve used more time I prefer mine fall-off-the-bone, not fork-wrestling. The jerk chicken was excellent. Rice and peas had great flavor but leaned a little dry. Presentation was a bit off my combo plate had the gravy-heavy meat and the rice served on opposite ends, which made things a little awkward.
Service was actually a nice surprise our server upsold us on dessert, and we were glad she did. The sweet potato pudding was a great way to finish the meal.
One odd note: the background atmosphere got unexpectedly intense due to a loud, very graphic phone call coming from the back area. Not sure what was going on, but the language and content weren’t really appropriate for a dining space. Hoping that was a one-off.
Final verdict: 🍽️ Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🎨 Presentation: Could use a tweak 💁🏽 Service: Chill, with a nice upsell 🔊 Atmosphere: Authentic, but maybe keep the back-room convos off speaker
Still I’ll definitely be back...
Read moreFood was good but service was awful! Stopped off for a bite before a show at the Copernicus Center at about 7pm on 07/11 and the place appeared to be only moderately busy. My father and I ordered 2 entrees and wound up waiting for 40 minutes to actually get out food all while at least 10 people behind us came in, ordered, received their food, ate and left. After about 25 minutes I had to go up and ask what was taking so long and the guy behind the counter who seemed to have an attitude actually had to ask what we had ordered! For the next 15 minutes we were repeatedly told that our order would be up in "just a minute" as if they just completely whiffed on the initial order and were trying to hide that fact. Food finally came out hot and pretty tasty but overcooked like it was a rush job. All in all the whole process took about an hour and cost $50+ including a 20% tip I wish I could have taken back. Neither my Dad or myself would...
Read moreTaking a walk to the library with my daughter, I decided to pop in and have lunch and I’m glad I did. The chicken fell off the bone and it wasn’t too peppery. The plantains were fresh, thick, sweet, and slightly crispy around the edges, giving them a light caramelized flavor. The rice and beans were flavorful and not mushy. Great food and amount for a lunch special for 10.40. I got a nice leg, a thigh, 3 fat plantains, and a generous scoop of rice. My daughter had the Mac and cheese, enjoyed it, and she had leftover for a snack later. Great costumer service. Clean, nice seating with Jamaican decor. It’s really nice to have another option for tasty, fresh food on that strip of Milwaukee. I appreciate it’s a small business and not a franchise selling...
