Oh boy! This was one of the most special breakfast experiences I have ever had.
We were fortunate to stop here. It was Christmas Eve at 9:30 am with nowhere to go because the Mexican restaurant we planned was closed. Here the place is cozy, the food is delicious, the owner is a wonderful person and the food is inexpensive.
This was special because the sweet lady was by herself, we were 9 people and she said it was not a problem, she called a man to help her and both served us fast and efficiently. The food was sooo good, all 9 people were so satisfied, she has "a something" I don't know what in his cooking that give a tasteful homemade flavor. Plus because of her incredible sense of humor we were laughing and joking and left the place so happy and satisfied. The most unbelievable thing was that (if my husband's uncle didn't lie to us) for the nine people there the check was 61 dollars, can you believe it? Note: make sure to have cash.
I want to empathized that I am Mexican, I moved 2 years ago and I have never ever liked the american breakfast style. Second I kinda don't like eggs, this time I give a try and I ordered a mushrooms omelette. I don't know, but I just loved it! It was just eggs and mushrooms, but was so tasteful!! And usually I can't stand eggs!
Please, just stop by and try it yourself, I was so skeptical at the beginning and ended...
Read moreThis place is a true hidden gem! It is a time capsule of Americana. The walls are full of stories, really, there are pictures and knick knacks all around to ask about. It’s the kind of mom-and-pop spot that feels like it hasn’t changed in decades—and that’s exactly why it’s perfect! You walk in and instantly feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s well-loved kitchen and trust me, the owner loves her kitchen, she loves what she does, and is the nicest person ever.
The food soothes your soul. I’ve gone when and happy and when I’m sad. You just feel comfortable there. Nothing is fussy or overdone, they are just honest, essentially homemade meals made with love. It is the kind of place that makes you want to stay and chat with the owner, sipping on coffee. Really, this place is a true rare treasure! It has character instead of the soulless cookie cutter eating spots you find all over this city. —— Editing this review a year later to add that I hope it gets designated as a historical landmark, I still...
Read moreAs far as Chicago diners go, you’re not going to find more bang for your buck than New Delta. For starters, the prices are super reasonable — literally half of what you would be paying at a place like Gold Nugget or Huddle House, for food that is twice as good and made with love. The service is excellent — warm and inviting. Penny is like everybody’s mom, she’s so friendly and easy to talk to. I always leave here feeling warm in both my belly and my heart. If you were to hold me down and force me to come up with a criticism for the place, it would just be that it gets a little toasty inside, but I’d gladly brave the heat to come here any day. Chicago needs places like New Delta the way one needs shelter during a...
