They disappointed me this sunday when I came to pick up my catering order that I place a few days beforehand. I set it for a 1 pm pick up and I arrived at around 2:30 pm. They had more than enough time to have my order ready but they did not have it ready so I had to wait an extra 45 minutes just to get the food I paid almost $200 for. They also tried to give me the wrong order and had an attitude when I told them it wasn’t the right one. When we finally arrived an hour and a half late to the event that started at 3 pm, we finally got to serve the 30 people who were angrily waiting for the food that was supposed to be there before they even arrived. The food wasn’t great either. The meat was extremely dry and had no flavor, and the rice wasn’t the best. I can’t say how the other food tasted because I refused to eat it. It was very disappointing because I usually come here every other Sunday. I might have to look for another Puerto Rican restaurant to go to since they really aggravated me with this experience. None of the food was close to even being worth anywhere near $200. Next time I’ll cook it myself since it’ll probably taste better, won’t be as dry, and I won’t be an hour and a half late for the event.

Update: April 28, 2018 Once again had a horrible experience here. I had came with family for my sisters birthday and it was horrible. They had us waiting at least 45 minutes for a table because they had all these parties. After we finally got to sit down, they left us waiting for another 20 minutes before we could finally place our order for our drinks. They didn’t bother bringing bread nor water because they were so focused on the parties. When we finally got to place our drink order, we ordered our food too since we had more than enough time to look over the menu a couple of times. As I’m placing my order, I tell the waitress what I wanted to drink and she says, “no, I’m taking the drinks after the food. She was extremely rude to us. When we finally got our drinks after another 15 minutes of waiting, one of the sodas was extremely sticky and was dirty on the top, when I take it back to them, they tried wiping it and giving it back to me. I told her no I want a new one and she gave me a dirty look. I also had to ask for the bread since we still haven’t gotten any meanwhile the party was on their 3rd round. After some more waiting, they finally bring us our food. As they’re handing us our food, the other waitress starts handing my cousins food a little too low and almost hits her 3 week old daughter. The meat was extremely dry once again and our drinks were as warm as the food. The fish had the same texture as a piece of gum. The waitress never checked on us since she was so focused on her party. They also forgot a relleno and gave me a weird look because I asked where was the other one. After all of this, my cousin asked me to order some food for him. I went up to the takeout counter, and waited another 5 minutes before they realized someone was waiting to order. The lady taking the order had the biggest attitude because I couldn’t hear her because she was talking so low. All I said was that I’m trying to order something to go and she finally decides to speak louder and says ok that’s what I was asking you with the biggest attitude ever. The whole experience was horrible. Usually my family and I leave a really good tip based off of the service, but you can bet your ass we didn’t leave a penny for the waitress. Really disappointed with how...

We recently celebrated my Dad’s & Broski's birthday at Ponce Restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience! My Dad is proudly Puerto Rican, so we wanted to honor him with authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Initially, we had plans at a different restaurant, but due to some last-minute fees and changes (plus the unexpected loss of our 96-year-old aunt), we decided to pivot. That’s when we found Ponce, and honestly, it was the best decision we could’ve made.

From the first call, Henry, the staff member who helped us, was welcoming and accommodating. Despite calling on a Thursday to plan a Sunday celebration for about 20 people, he assured us there were no extra fees and made the entire process stress-free. When we showed up with closer to 30 people, they didn’t bat an eye—they adjusted everything to make us comfortable.

The ambiance was vibrant and culturally beautiful. The restaurant was clean, the tables were set up beautifully, and the music was spot on. The staff even played my Dad’s favorite artist, Juan Luis Guerra, which made the celebration extra special. The service was phenomenal—big shoutout to Henry, Jessica, Carmen, and Lydia for going above and beyond to make us feel at home. They didn’t rush us, didn’t give us attitude, and even let us bring in our own cake.

The food? Delicious! Everything came out fresh, hot, and flavorful. The drinks were fantastic too. The kids in our group had a blast, and the adults were just as happy.

We are so glad we switched to Ponce—it turned what could’ve been a stressful situation into a beautiful celebration that my dad will always remember. If you’re looking for great food, amazing service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, this is the spot. Thank you, Ponce, for giving us a celebration we’ll...

I would have given it one star based on the experience I had yesterday but the food is good enough to give it 3 stars. I was doing uber and i waited extremely long...over 20 minutes. This actually is not the first time that I go to pick up food and the wait is extremely long. The waiting was not the issue I had tho. It was about 7:45p & a few people walked in to dine in and the lady that was attending the take out in front said they stop sitting people at 7:30pm because they close at 8:00pm. I understand she wanted to leave, but if someone arrives at 7:59pm, it was in her duty to sit them down and give them the best dining experience. I have worked in the food industry and I have managed a restaurant as well so I know how frustrating and annoying those last minute customers can be. HOWEVER, your restaurant is not expected to close a minute before closing time. Actually, i am sure the city has an ordinace for that. Restaurants get fined for closing early. They can close late but they cant close early and this very RUDE waitress made many families feel uncomfortable, so uncomfortable that a gentlemen who came with his family to pick up food had to walk outside from how rude and how big of a scene this lady was making about the seating situation. A couple infront of me walked in and wanted to get seated and she told them no. I just could not imagine having that type of customer service in my restaurant and I would never have allowed that from my employees. Rude service like that leads to less sales. It would have cost her nothing to sit the couple down. As it was, there was still about 6 or 7 families being waited on in the dining area. What would have...

Ponce was always my Go To for PR authentic food… the last 3 times I have ordered I was completely disappointed… this last time was the last straw for me… habichuelas were dry when packed w white rice (they usually pack them separately) I always order arroz blanco con habichuelas and have always gotten them seperate. See pic below of dry beans..today ordered bistec guisado and the corner of the container was the only thing w bistec it was dry last time I ordered it was in the bigger part of the container and super soaked in juice… and the tomatoes on my salad was soo poor looking see pic below that one should have been tossed out and not put on someone’s food…ordered at 4 and they ran out of bread?! How do you run out of bread?! That’s like a Mexican restaurant running out of tortillas! The packers NEVER pack utensils! When I ask for some they act like it comes from their personal collection and when ordering more than one meal I get one fork! As for pique pft I ask for it and get 3 small HALF full containers . Either new staff or new cooks or packers so disappointing I spent at the least $45 each time I come and get not even the bare minimum of food… empanadas or pastillios has a tiny spoon of meat … alcapurrias were dry this time and not crispy as they usually are giving them a break and giving my money elsewhere also sending other people elsewhere when I get asked where to buy pr food

My wife and I visited Ponce Restaurant on a weekday right at about 2 pm. The menu is detailed and easy to understand. The quality of the food was STELLAR! It compares highly against other Puerto Rican restaurants in Chicago. We shared tostones rellenos that my wife and I destroyed before I remembered to take a picture. 🙂 I had a Jibarito de bistec that has lots of garlic and awesome flavor. My wife had mofongo con Carne frita. My only comment about Carne frita was that the fat could have been rendered a bit more. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and conveniently set up for dancing at night. The only complaint I have was the level of service. It took quite a while for the server to return to check on us. We had to try hard to get her attention while she attended to other tables. We sat for approximately 15 minutes looking to pay for our check, and I eventually needed to walk up to the counter to pay. We're willing to try this place again hoping for better service at a different time of day.
