I don't understand the general appeal of Starbucks. There are so many other fantastic choices for your coffee fix around here. Shops like Dark Matter, Portage Grounds, New Wave Coffee, or Perkolator or the countless others in the city that just do it so much better.
For example, I order a mocha latte from pretty much every coffee shop I go into. What Starbucks does is use what tastes like cheap kinda waxy chocolate. And then they top it with a huge dollop of oily whip cream. A latte with whip cream. It's not hot cocoa. Milk froth is what should really be there. There's something magical about the taste of good frothed milk in a latte. It's lost at a Starbucks.
But for whatever reason, Starbucks seems to have tons of business despite the better options available. It's not like it's bad coffee, but for the same money, there's plenty that's better and...
Read moreI don't care about any other Starbucks in the USA, this is thee best ever. Best customer service, best crafted coffees, and most importantly, the best baristas. It's pretty busy and they run out of pastries pretty fast. The baristas get to know you and if you come in regularly, they will remember your drink so by the time you get to the register while waiting in line, your coffee is ready!
The weekends are crowded but the customers are locals and that's what makes this place great. The customers care about their neighborhood so they won't litter, they won't ignore you and strangers will chat you up.
