My usual burrito place was closed for the night, and still yearning for a steak burrito, I decided to pay this TBK a visit, as it has been a few years since the last time I bought food from here, and I figured "why not". Ordered a king steak burrito and a side of chips and salsa to go. Waited for my order to be prepared and watched the cooks do their thing as I waited. I noticed immediately that one of the workers was not wearing sterile gloves and neglected any mandatory sanitary requirements. He was picking up bags of nachos with his bare hands. His palms and fingers made physical contact with the chips at the top of the bags as he put them into the to-go bags. The cashier, also without gloves and who handles paper money containing the genetic residue of countless people, put my burrito, napkins, and salsa cup and salsa tub into my bag without washing or santizing his hands. I recall vividly that he was not wearing gloves because on his left-hand middle knuckle was a wart or callus. They finished my order, passed it to me, and I left and headed for home.
First thing I did before I commenced eating was dump out the first couple of layers of nacho chips that made contact with the bare, gloveless hands of the man who put them in my bag. Took a bite of more or less "uncontaminated" chips, and they were pretty darn stale, as though I were given chips that have been left out for a few days. The salsa in a Styrofoam tub that came with the chips was inordinately watery and flavorless. The steak burrito was filled with gristle. Every bite had some beef-flavored chewy connective tissue, unrendered fat, and untrimmed silver skin. Pretty darn awful and overall unappetizing. Couldn't even bring myself to finish it, which I wasn't thrilled about because I am a stickler when it comes to food waste. This place very clearly cuts corners and has no real vested interest in the well-being of their customers as long as they get their ill-deserved money.
This food is barely fit for barnyard animals, much less for human consumption. But to each their own. If you think this stuff is good, more power to you. And if you're desperate enough for some 1am burritos after a night of drinking and poor decision making, well, as sure as God's got sandals, this place has them. Just remember that your bottom of the barrel food will be handled with gross, unwashed hands and runny bowel movements, and stomach pain may be in your foreseeable future. Good...
Read moreEven though there are bunch of Taco Burito King restaurants all over Chicago, and even though some of them might look the same, have the same logo, etc, don't be foolled it's not really a chain restaurant, not yet at least. It's a family owned busines ran by 3 brothers, who don't always get along. Well whether the brother who owns this location gets the credit for being the "original" or not, the fact is, the food is much better here than all the other ones! First of all the portions are huge! The Super King Buritto can feed a family, for a week! There is no better way for a man to establish his position as the Alpha male in the group than by ordering the super king and eating it all by himself. They should charge extra for the respect that will surely come from such a feat, but they don't. The guys behind the counter might look mean, but if you know what you want, they'll be really nice. The food is made right there in front of you. If the building reminds you of a jail house, with it's tiled walls and floor and lack of any ambience, let me tell you it is not as bad as the old building, which had a straw roof and looked like it was imported straight from Mexico along...
Read moreThis was my favorite restaurant until yesterday. Sunday morning a order got placed through my postmate app. I don’t remember doing it. But long story short. It’s was an pick up order placed that I never picked up. Uber told me contact the company because they hit fulfilled. I called the manager. It took three days to get her. So she finally was there yesterday. So I went up there. First she said they was closed doing the time the order said completed. Then she said how I know you didn’t get the order. Mind you they have cameras everywhere. Second she could’ve just just asked her employees. Everyone not an scam artist. Then she said they don’t carry the item I order but the app name it’s a mini burrito instead of junior. She told me I had to get the refund from Uber/postmate. I showed her the email they sent she still was like they can call us. Uber customer service said they never call the merchant. So to end a long story DONT BUY FROM THIS LOCATION very rude customer service. Also not willing to fix a problem they half caused. I don’t know if it’s because I’m black or just that’s how they treat customers. $28...
