I don't have a reason to remove stars. Everything about the restaurant is inviting. We sat where we pleased and were attended to immediately by a waitress that looked pretty sharp. We had several questions about the menu. She explained in both English and Spanish fluently. We had the Hauraches and Sopes and then realized that everything in store is made from scratch. Their portions are moderate and aren't heaps of food which is great considering everything is made from scratch. Their drinks, however, are enormous and are served in cute jars. We tried Cecina that day, a type of dried and ironed steak grilled with oil. It resembles gyro meat and salted and peppered. They do accept both cards and cash. They have a ten dollar minimum for cards. My girl and I both had two items off the menu and two large drinks adding up to somewhere around twenty-seven dollars. It's in front of a forked avenue so parking would have to be on a side street around the block. It's accessible on foot but probably awkward to wheelchairs without help. This place is wonderful if you're looking for some authentic Mexican food with full service. The flavors are full on and the store does not try to pass as a...
Read moreI stopped by for their Taco Tuesday special to give this spot a try. It’s a total mom-and-pop operation, located on a busy intersection in 60639. The area has no shortage of Mexican restaurants, so the competition is tough.
The vibe is colorful, bright, and informal, with plenty of space inside. Tables and chairs are a little worn, and the high ceilings make it a bit loud, but it has that home-style, casual feel that’s good for a quick bite.
The Taco Tuesday deal offered four protein options; I went with steak and chicken. The chicken was flavorful but on the dry side. The steak had a good taste but definitely packed some heat, so if you’re sensitive to spice, be warned. The tacos themselves were small, which I assume was because of the promo portion size. Chips were a nice touch, and the guacamole was yummy, though it could’ve used a little lemon and salt to really pop.
Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. Overall, the experience was solid but nothing extraordinary. It feels very much like many of the other neighborhood taco joints in the area. I’d come back if I was nearby, but I wouldn’t go...
