I would of gave 0 stars if i could. Yo soy boricua 100% and I love going to Puerto rican restaurants when I'm back in my home city of Chicago. So I gave this place a try because my usual spots don't open to 11am and it was Sunday and we were leaving back to milwaukee. So this place opens at 10am so I went there. First off. Place was dirty inside. Tables and cob webs in corners of windows. Then we ordered 2 jibaritos de lechon, 2 pastalios, 2 acapurrias, y pedasos de morcilla sin sangre. The jibaritos barely had any lechon. 1 tomato, y no tenia sabor( no flavor ) trash. Acapurrias were horrible. All masa no meat. And pastallios were bad to. And. Then we asked for arroz con gandules and they said it ain't ready it would be another 45 min before it's ready. So obviously they didn't get there before open time and get things ready. This is the problem with 95% of my heritages restaurants and why they don't succeed like mexican restaurants. There's no pride. There's no cleaning and making sure all is well with the looks and taste of the food. This place was hands down one of worse places I have went to in Chicago for rican food. Most of there customers were Mexicans when I was there. They probably don't know the difference of real rican food. This was a insult to my island of...
Read moreFood is consistently great here with very reasonable prices, my mom has been coming here since we were kids. The top 3 things I look for in a PR restaurant/food cart is their Sazon, rice, and quality of fritura. The seasoning on their lechon is spot on, their rice is typically tender with several pieces salchichon and their Alcapurias/morcilla are hands down my favorite in Chicago. Service on the other hand….. good luck. I’m counting down the day when a staff member and a patron throws hands. The last time I went I noted they made a few updates but their kitchen floor looked really bad with trash on the floor. With some fabuloso and elbow grease along with a better attitude by staff members and this place would be 5 stars. Side note they use franks as their hot sauce which I’m not a fan of, I wish they made the thick puertorican hot sauce that borinquen...
Read moreWhen I finally achieve my dream of becoming a paleo bodybuilder, I will live off of the steak jibaritos and piononos from this restaurant. The ground beef in the piononos is perfect every time. They also have bacalaitos if you need something salty. The bacalaitos are pretty salty, that is my only beef, no pun intended...but you might like them. Everytime I come here I feel like I died and went to plantain heaven and if you are a maduro junkie like me then get in line. On second thought, maybe I won't go paleo after all. I'll miss out on the melt-in-your-mouth pastelillos. The food is to DIE for. You might literally die, haha. It's quite an adventure to get here, you'll see a lot of really classic stuff on Cicero Ave before reaching this Puerto Rican joint on Armitage, lol, but it's well worth the trip and all of the characters...
