It’s fair to say that we have a new contender on the block for the BEST TACOS in CHICAGO - here! But not just the tacos…. I can also say they have some of the BEST WINGS I’ve ever had from a Mexican restaurant! Besides that - EVERYTHING we got to sample was 🔥🔥🔥 Oh - THEYRE ALSO BYOB! 👏 I have to start off by letting you know that they marinate their meats for 24 HOURS and you can tell! So don’t worry about coming here and getting anything that’s bland or dry! The sopes and wings were way better than I anticipated! The sopes itself were super crunchy, not soggy and the 3 different wings I tried - salsa verde, salsa roja and Doña Rosa Mole were way better than I expected! For the tacos, we got to try four different ones - El Americano - skirt steak, Al Pastor - pork, Pollo Al Limon - Chicken and Hongos Al Chuy - Mushroom medley. Everyone DEVOURED their tacos - no exaggeration BUT the MUSHROOM TACO?!?! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 It’s a combination of 3 different kinds of mushrooms and was easily my favorite one. I was shocked at how much flavor they had and how well the consistency almost felt like I was eating meat! The tres leches was another great part to the meal - it has a strawberry compote and buttercream on it. I loved that the cake had a thick consistency despite being saturated with the milks. This has to be your next stop! Tell em that Bri from Planes and Plates sent you!

I had the pleasure of visiting Taquizas Valdez on Saturday, May 24, 2025, with my daughter after participating in the Memorial Day parade in Chicago. Recommended by my uncle, who knows I was craving a good torta, I can confidently say this restaurant did not disappoint! As soon as we walked in, we were warmly welcomed. The highlight for me was the torta, which was served on a generous heart-shaped bread—a perfect touch that made it even more special. The flavors were incredible, and you could tell that everything was made with care. A lovely surprise came from the owner and master chef, Ivan, who treated us to complimentary corn ribs. These delightful creations resembled ribs but were made from elote, and I can’t recommend them enough! To top off our meal, we enjoyed a slice of Ivan’s leche cake, which was rich and delicious. My daughter and I were absolutely in heaven with every bite. Chicago is known for its vibrant Mexican food scene, but Taquizas Valdez stands out as a new gem that serious competition should keep an eye on. I've also heard that Ivan does catering, which is something I’ll definitely consider for future events. I can’t wait to return once I finish my overseas tour. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by Taquizas Valdez—you won't regret it!

Man, what more can I say outside of these are the best tacos on the north side of Chicago. Maybe some of the best in the city. The Al Pastor in particular blew my mind. The tortillas, the horchata, the pastries, the escabeche, everything is made in house and you can taste it. Can’t wait to try the torta on my next go around. Perks:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️BYOB ⭐️Perfect Meetup / date atmosphere ⭐️Foodie Paradise with High food presentation (for the socal) ⭐️High quality handmade tortillas ⭐️Culinary chef but at an affordable cost for all to enjoy

I almost don’t want to share this place because it’s so good, but this place truly deserves all the recognition! The food is phenomenal, and my top recommendation is the American-style taco. The homemade flour shell is on another level. I haven’t had one this good ever. The difference between a store-bought shell and their handmade version is night and day.

The vegetarian taco and guacamole are also standouts. The guacamole, in particular, is bursting with lime flavor in every single bite, and I honestly wanted to take it home with me. But it was gone before I even realized it. It’s clear that everything here is made with the highest quality ingredients and incredible attention to detail.

If you get the chance to chat with the owner, you’ll find out about their amazing journey. Not only is the owner a grassroots culinary-trained expert putting his heart and soul into the food and the local community, but he also served several years in the military. Hearing his story of dedication, perseverance, and achieving the American Dream is inspiring.

This isn’t just a restaurant it’s a testament to hard work, resilience, and love for food and people. Don’t miss the chance to support this...
