The sandwiches are fairly decent, good size portions, albeit a little bread heavy and also… lukewarm? A proper cubano should be hot and meaty and flavorful, these are a decent sandwich but not quite authentic and leave a lot to be desired. It’s as if they toasted the bread and put cold filling in and microwaved it. The chips taste like they come out of a Tostitos bag, and the salsa and guacamole or OK. Definitely not worth the premium they charge but they are decent.
They are really expensive at 16 dollars per sandwich given their quality. You don’t get chips or a drink or anything.
And that would be forgivable and doable given it’s an airport, but the service is just so lackluster and rude. Be prepared to wait a long time to get an overpriced lukewarm sandwich, and then be prepared to not be allowed to eat within the restaurant if you have the misfortune to accidentally order at the kiosk because they won’t let you eat there. It doesn’t matter if there are open seats, or that you gave them 30 dollars for a sandwich and some chips. I tried to ask nicely to stay and eat my meal and the hostess didn’t care, you would have thought I brought food in from another restaurant! There were easily 15 open seats.
I then suggested to make their policy a bit more clear up front, as it’s hard to even find an entrance or hostess stand to get seated for their dine in experience. Many other folks in line were getting turned away from dine in service after ordering at at the window (which is how their other location does orders for dine in). This hostess just sneered at me and acted super condescending and had no interest in taking constructive feedback on how to make this more clear. She kept referring a sign and asking if I read it, and it just said “dine in here, take out here” as if it just stated where you could sit.
I’d avoid this place at all costs. Their sandwich isn’t worth the price, the wait, the horrible customer experience, and the general condescending attitude you might get. If I was Rick Bayless, I’d be furious to have my name on this sad excuse for a food establishment. Take your money and go to a place like Publican, or even McDonalds, where you can have your food at value and be allowed to sit in the same restaurant you ordered it from. What a novel concept. You will definitely get better service from McDonalds than here.
I’ve been here 5 times and really wanted to like the place, but every time I leave more disappointed and I cannot for the life of me understand why O’Hare folks are so obsessed...
Read moreThe signs are not clear for the public. Had a sign said with arrows, one saying carryout with an arrow pointing left towards self order kiosks and dine in with an arrow pointing right. Above that is a sign that says order here and to the right pick up here. Beyond the pick up here area is seating with no sign.
We waited at the order here area and was ignored for a few minutes. I went to the kiosk to place the order thinking maybe they are not taking orders in person. After placing the order i walked over to find a seat while i wait for my food. I was stopped by the bartender who said if i placed the order at the kiosk then its a carry out and I need to find somewhere else to eat. I tried to explain to him but he wasn't having it. I walked over to the "pick up here" area and spoke to a man who appeared to be the supervisor. I asked about the seating issue and just told me to do whatever i want he's not going to fight it because eventhough they have a sign they always get bad reviews. He said atleast order a drink from the bartender and they will be happy.
My suggestion, inly because the food that i did not eat at their dining area was still good, is to remove the order here sign if customers cannot actually order there. Put up a sign next to the seating area that says "wait here to be seated" or something like that. The "supervisors" almost defeated attitude toward a simple problem may be a training issue. The bartenders rudeness is definitely a training issue. So better customer service and a couple changes to confusing signage and hopefully this place will still be in business the next time im at the...
Read moreIt was 10:15 AM Sunday morning. I was waiting for my flight to board at noon. I walked to find Fontera torta and I was very excited to try a breakfast torta for the first time, knowing how wonderful Chef Bayless‘s food is after dining at his Chicago restaurants numerous times. I walked to the counter where nobody was standing and all other restaurants had lines with at least 15 to 20 people minimum waiting , this sparked my curiosity, why is nobody waiting for what is probably the best food in the airport. I walked up and the young lady immediately stopped me and said no matter what you want. It’s a minimum of 25 minutes for anything and I said I would like a breakfast torta and she told me they are not serving breakfast anymore, even though the sign clearly says until 11 AM . I asked her if I wanted chips in guacamole or a bowl of soup she told me 25 minutes minimum even know there were no other customers waiting for anything. I asked her why does the sign say that breakfast until 11 AM? she told me it doesn’t matter we just don’t have breakfast anymore and kept repeating. It would be a minimum of 25 minutes for my order. Unfortunately I had to walk away because I would’ve gladly waited for that caliber of food for 25 minutes , her attitude soured my appetite and I just ate McDonald’s breakfast. This is very unfortunate for Chef Bayless and hopefully he can make some changes to his staff at least to their attitudes and professionalism seeing as that this restaurant is in the third busiest airport on the planet in the international terminal , this would probably be a good...
