I walk up to the front where the menu is. After taking a look I am waiting to be welcomed and addressed by staff. I am making eye contact and standing in the front No one looks my way or asks if I need help. So when the blonde woman working behind the counter walks near me I say a big friendly “Hi guys! Am I in the right place to place an order?” I asked this question because the layout is confusing and there is no host out front to usher you to a seat or place a to go order. Also I’d like to order sushi and not stand around waiting for 15 minutes hoping to be helped. She replies and confused “yes?” I say “great!” And I and proceed to order a sushi roll to go. In the middle of ordering she asks me
“Are you upset?”
Wait what? I am not crying, I don’t have a black eye I, I am not yelling or speaking in a harsh toneam not physically showing signs of being upset. What is this? Such a strange and inappropriate question to ask a friendly adult woman who is a customer showing no signs of being upset.
So I ask her “Do you mind me asking you why you asked me if I was upset?”
“Because you seem upset” (the blonde woman’s answer.)
AH. Now I know what the play is. This is a re-direct. Used by people who feel intimidated or called out.
Unnecessary to do if you are doing your job correctly. What this incidence shows is that there is a lack of guidance and leadership for the staff and if you hate your job, find a new one....
Read moreI was dining here today and received excellent service from the female bartender. The food was also delicious. However, the manager kept invading the space of his coworkers and was clearly having intense conversations with them. At first I ignored it. But it persisted with another female server for a longer duration of time. The server looked uncomfortable, because the manager wouldn’t stop. It was so distracting and uncomfortable to watch. He then proceeded behind the bar to continue yelling at the bartender when she said it was time for her break. It was so aggressive that another customer actually said “hey man, chill” to the manager in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. The manager continued to invade his employees space and be aggressive and confrontational. I’ve worked in the service industry for over a decade and I’ve never experienced a manager who was this condescending to employees. I told him as I was leaving that the behavior was distracting and unprofessional. It was also delaying service for another customer who had been waiting at the bar already for about 15 minutes not helped. The workers deserve better. This man was a Caucasian with red-ish/ brunette hair, facial hair, tall (maybe 6ft). If anyone above him reads this- consider hiring someone else. It was painful to watch how he...
Read moreMy husband and I ate dinner here on a Sunday and had a pretty good experience. I have gluten and dairy food allergies so I wanted to make sure I could get gluten free rolls and I was able to. The hostess was clueless and couldn’t even tell us if there were gluten free options, nor could she bother to put in the effort to hand my husband a menu when he asked. I wonder how many people with gluten allergies have not stopped here because of her since she was working during both our treks through the airport. Other than her terrible attitude, the waitress was very sweet and attentive and reassured us that the rolls could be made gluten free and the chefs were good about gluten allergies. She did mention that any of the rolls could be made gluten free and I believe the bowls can be gluten free also. We ordered 3 rolls to share (2 gluten free) and I had no issues at all. The portion size was large and the rolls were good- much better than supermarket sushi as other reviews have commented. They even had tamari. There wasn’t a lot of noise from people walking by and the chairs were pretty comfortable as well. If we have another layover at O’Hare while traveling, we will definitely be...
