There were not a lot of options at this end of terminal 1 at the Chicago airport so I went to the bar side of the one and only restaurant/bar. Note, you can't get food at the bar, you have to order it in a separate area then bring it to the bar. My issue is around the service. My first drink made by one fellow bartender was good. I started with a Bloody Mary but it was the second drink with the second bartender Tim that was horrible. Tim appeared to hate his job. I ordered a 'split' because I thought that's what the USA calls it, and he corrected me and said "you mean Prosecco". Thanks for correcting me dude. He proceeded to put the entire small bottle of Prosecco into a regular wine glass that had just come out of the dishwasher. So the glass smelled like cleaning solution. That was horrible! Plus, but who puts Prosecco in a wine glass? Prosecco has always gone into a flute. He said no one else ever has complained about it. I told him "well I guess I'm difficult". What is the point in telling me that? To make me feel bad for wanting something different than what you normally do? Probably no one wants to talk to him because he's so miserable. He begrudgingly fixed my drink and gave me a new one, in a flute, but it was clear, he was not happy about it. If I ever found myself in that end of the airport, and I saw Tim, I would definitely stay...

Walked over here because we didn't want McDonalds breakfast and it sounded good; overall the food WAS indeed good, but my sausage, egg & cheese croissant was just ok, nothing special, I will say the croissant itself was good, the sausage patty, was just that, a patty (like Jimmy Deans) nothing special and for the price I really expected more, or at least 2 patties. The hashbrown also seems premade (frozen) and is very small. My wife had one of their special croissants and it was pretty tasty I will say, but even with the Military discount, 2 croissants, 2 tiny hashbrowns & 2 coffees was a bit over $40. The ambience is nice, but no one was cleaning the tables (it's an airport with thousands of people coming through, table cleaning should be a priority). Per usual you're also asked to tip...why? You pick your own food up, you actually have to order at the counter, then you throw your own food away...STOP THE TIP MADNESS, and yes, I was a server in college and delivered Pizza in High School, so I know what it's like to work for tips, taking an order does not justify asking for one. All in all, not a "bad experience by any means" but I might stick to McD's for $10 next time when stopping through ORD (which...

In the mass produced, pre-cooked, rewarmed world of Chicago O’Hare’s terminal C, you will find Berghoff’s Cafe. Made to order breakfast wraps, sandwiches, and omelette await you. I ordered their breakfast wrap, commonly referred to as a breakfast taco (eggs, cheese, and bacon - or you may choose sausage). The kind man who took my order has clearly made this place his second home, or maybe he is the owner. He relayed my request to another gentleman, whom I’m certain has embedded his dna in the well worn path behind the omelet bar, that gently, lovingly, and skillfully turned out the fluffiest of eggs, gently laid them across a warm tortilla and laid on cheese and bacon. Now the bacon isn’t the typical precooked bacon-mache’ that you can see day light though. No, this is the bacon from which legends are made. Perfectly crisped, salty, smokey, gift of the gods. My morning complete, I left to board my 6 hour flight to Anchorage with a happy tummy and good feelings all around. The staff is friendly and patient. Now dear reader and fellow traveler, please do us all a favor and before you step into line, know what you want and order quickly, we all have places to be and miles to go...

The Berghoff Cafe is a family-owned German restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner Since our gate was directly across from it, we stopped in for a breakfast sandwich around 8 a.m. We waited in line for about 20 minutes before we could order, but once we did, we had our meal and were seated within 10 minutes. There was nothing extraordinary about the sandwiches; the bacon was a bit salty and looked pre-cooked, and the eggs were poured from a milk carton-type container; however, the bread was very good. The bacon, egg, and cheese croissant would've been average if not for the light and buttery texture of the bread. The sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich was similar. I had it on Brewer's Bread -- made from spent grains left over from beer brewing. The bread was put inside a panini press, and was delicious. The staff was extremely friendly, and even cleared our table when we were finished, even though we sat next to a trash bin. If you're in Chicago on a layover, stop in at thev Berghoff Cafe in Concourse C. The place has charm and personality, unlike the numerous food courts littered across the airport.
