Sorry, failed to post here but it is an important one....
I was just at Gyros Stop at 2907 S MacArthur Blvd in Springfield by Penny Lane and want to relate a positive experience.
I got there just as the lobby closed and went through the drive-up to order a single Gyro with extra sauce, lots of tomatoes and NO ONIONS.
The gentleman at the window and I chatted while my order was being created and I stayed a little until a car came up behind me.
Not wasting a minute, I pulled around back and opened my very warm/hot Gyro...only to see it was smothered in onions with all the rest!
I am allergic to onions, especially raw onions, and my gut would have never forgiven me if I simply pulled them off and ate my Gyro.
So, I drove around and got behind the car that had pulled in behind me. And before I could get to the window, the cook came out and without me saying a word, apologized and asked me to park out front and he will bring me what I ordered!
A few minutes later the man who took my order came out not only with what I ordered but my money back too. At first I refused (several times) but he insisted.
I thanked him and once again pulled around back, opened my aluminum foil wrap and feasted upon one the best doggone Gyros I have ever had!!!
And I truly mean that.
It was hot, full of flavor, lots of sauce and tomatoes, and was gone before I got a half mile away!!!
I'll be...
Read moreI still remember by first visit to GS, many years ago. I saw the sign and thought “a gyro sounds good” so I pulled in.
Clearly I was onto something as the drive through was packed and I was the 4th person in line inside.
Standing there, waiting for my turn to order a gyro, all 3 of the people in front of me independently ordered burgers. During this time, two of the drive through vehicles also came through ordering cheeseburgers.
The universe was telling me to abandon my gyro plans and figure out why all these people are coming to the gyro joint for their burger fix.
I. Was. Not. Disappointed.
The burgers are made with fresh beef, smashed on the griddle, reminiscent of a 50s diner. Fresh soft bun, lightly grilled, that soaks up just enough grease to amplify the flavor without getting soggy. Fresh lettuce and a giant slice of a deliciously ripe tomato, pickle, and onion. The cheese was all melty the way a perfect burger should be.
No frills inside, but perfectly clean environment with plenty of seating. Staff are always friendly and seem like good folks.
I’ve been back probably 100 times since that first visit 10+ years ago. I still have no idea what the gyro tastes like (but my wife says it’s the best in town) because it is hands down the best burger you can find anywhere, and I refuse to pass up an opportunity to get...
Read moreI ordered a gyro meal, which comes with fries and a drink. I also ordered extra sauce and asked for no tomatoes. They only gave me the gyro and drink. When I asked for fries, the guy accused me of lying and demanded to see my receipt. I told him I wasn’t given one but paid $17. The girl who took my order chimed in and confirmed I had paid for a meal and that they gave the wrong order. They finally gave me the fries and slammed the window before I could check the bag. Once I checked it, I was still missing the sauce. I waited for several minutes for someone to come back to the window and was given more rude attitude before finally getting my sauce. Once I got home and opened the gyro, it had all tomatoes and no onion instead of no tomatoes, like I’d ordered.
I used to love coming to this location but was really surprised by how rude all of the workers were and by how I was treated. I definitely won’t be going back. I know that customer service seems to be a thing of the past at most chain restaurants but was really surprised by the lack at this local...
