Nice little neighborhood sandwich shop with an eclectic mix of items: Coca-Cola Freestyle machine for fountain sodas, a wall of refrigerated individual sodas and beer, plus 40 oz. beer and 6-packs, plus 2-liters sodas, iced tea, and milk, plus a wide range of specialty sandwiches, a few salads and entrees plus pizza, either slices or whole pies. The desserts all look delicious: slices of cheese cake, individually wrapped brownies and some half pies.
Please note that they have a notice hanging on the refrigerated case that alcohol is for take-out only -- you cannot drink it in their dining room.
Strangely enough, they also sell lottery tickets, cigarettes, and Cracker Jack and bagged Trolli gummi candy.
I don't know why, but the Freestyle machine doesn't have root beer, but they do have other non-caffeinated choices. If you want root beer, they do have it in individual bottles.
Seating is a pair of standard sandwich shop four-seater booths, plus about eight stools arranged at two different counters. A TV was playing the Phillies game live when my girlfriend and I were there.
I got the 8" steak sandwich, fries and fountain soda special for $8.49. My girlfriend got "pizza fries", a fountain soda and a brownie. I got enough fries for two people, though Kelly said that they do reheat well in the oven... Our total was something like $18.xx.
I got my steak sandwich with everything: cheese, sauce, mushrooms, onions, hot & sweet peppers. Other Yelpers have said that the rolls are home made, which I would agree with. It was on the softer side but good.
CASH ONLY -- ATM machine is on the premises. ...
Read moreOur local shop a few miles away closed down last year so I have been looking for a new place.
Tommys is an absolutely fine replacement and I wish I had gone sooner.
As of fall 2019, I have been getting their cheesesteaks, hoagies, and both styles of pizza.
Cheesesteaks- they use steakums, not my favorite.
Subs- meat on top is different but holds the lettuce tomato and such in much better than standard. They aren't a sub only shop, so I dont expect 100% crazy good subs. Best I ever had? C'mon now. Best in the area? For sure on flavor, portion and price.
Pizza- they have ny style (large slice, thin flimsy crust) and a Sicilian (pan pizza on their menu). I'm always biased toward actual NYC pizza so Im overly critical on this one. But for $11(?) a pie, you wont beat it up in carbon county. The Sicilian is great with a light fluffy buttery dough. Toppings are your standard variety.
If you're coming to Carbon County looking for gourmet, you wont find it ANYWHERE here. We're simple mountain folk people, c'mon.
If you want a great taste, a full belly, and to not ding your wallet too much (cash only), tommys is the best I have found.
Only ever had one order messed up out of 30+. New girl forgot the pizza in the oven and burnt it. Supposedly. They already had a replacement in the oven when I arrived and I got to keep the "burnt" one. One slice had a slightly crisper crust. Slightly. I got 2 pizzas that night for the price of 1 and maybe a 7 extra minute wait. They apologized and more than made up for it. Accidents happen and they corrected...
Read moreMy first and last experience of Tommy’s Subs was today , Here’s why! Atmospheric conditions were at the very least clean from what I could tell , however there was a minimal amount of seating for families and the seating besides wooden booths look old and overly used. After ordering my food and a few guests food also that tended here with me I’d say a good 20 minutes passed before we heard our ordered called out to us to pick up at the counter. The look of the food and preparation seemed fair but everything including the meats in the sandwiches to the coleslaw side dish of my fish and chips was absolutely disgusting, plain and utterly most boring for the sake of food. I highly disagree with a past review and I quote “ the manager is definitely a foodie” The only amount of flavor in any piece of food I ate was in the ketchup and the salt on my steak fries which were on the brink of mashed potatoes that hit a fryer and a bar fry that sat too long. The hype surrounding this place must truly be from locals supporting the business but I recommend eating somewhere else. I.E I believe a fast food dollar menu would have satisfied me more Oh and not to mention no AC it was easily 90 degrees today ... Geez,...
