We are locals, we live on old Alabama and are always looking for a good place to eat near home. We have been to sushi sumo and sushi mania several times yes somehow Koko’s was not on our radar. On a whim I searched to see if there were any other places to grab some sushi and Koko’s popped up, the many positive reviews led me to want to try it. It did not disappoint, first impressions was that it was a cute place, seemed immaculately clean, and we were greeting by a super sweet lady who was also our server. She was very kind and attentive to our children, offered children’s chop sticks without us having to ask for them, gave us many suggestions when we asked for them and cautioned our kids in a kind and caring way when food items were hot. The food all came out made with care, everything very fresh and it seems everyone in the restaurant holds themself to a high standard.
FOOD:
My kids got the Philly Roll (smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado), fried rice (flavorful with a good bit of veggies) yum yum sauce offered without us asking for it, we also got a couple crunchy rolls...all good...I personally got the Christmas Roll which was recommend to me by the server...excellent recommendation, fresh, light with a decent kick (spicy crab, avocado, shrimp and masago)
We will definitely be coming back to this spot over the others thanks to the delicious food and the...
Read moreHave been to this restaurant 5 or 6 times. The food is excellent. The chef pays a lot of attention to detail and the Sushi is full of flavour, fresh and delicious. The price is very affordable and the place is cosy and warm. A wonderful ambience that reminds me of Tokyo.
I actually love the place, however the service is very poor. We have been rushed out a few times by having the bill plonked on our table while we are in the middle of eating. We have been told to hurry up, as they are closing... We have even been told items on the menu are not available because it's too hard for the chef to 'knock up', as ingredients would need to be cooked. There have been occasions when we have been stared at as if to hurry us along as we are not welcome.
The staff can be curt and unpleasant which is a real shame because the Japanese cuisine is better than anywhere north of Atlanta.
This would be a 5 Star place if they managed to make us feel welcome, rather than like unpleasant characters frequenting their establishment that they would sooner rush out than have...
Read moreI have been a customer for 10 years and the sushi is decent quality for the price. However, the most recent visits have been disappointing and I had a terrible experience this last time. If you want fried rice, be advised the only vegetables you will get are carrots and onions. I ordered the regular vegetable fried rice and was extremely disappointed. About two cups of rice, with shredded carrots and onions. My boyfriend's chicken fried rice did not have the FDA required serving size of meat. We called to request a refund or replacement meal, they said they could only do so by adding a little broccoli or if we returned to the store, which we ordered take out, they could refund it. We decided not to drive back and when we explained they lost a customer, we were laughed at. Your money is better off...
