Update 6 months later: The food is still trash and zero accountability. Some friends convinced us to get drinks there and try the food again. The Pina loco meats were over cooked ( so dry that I literally choked a bit) and the rice was so salty that I couldn't take another bite of it. The worst part was the waiter pretending like they had a manager we would be able to talk to when there wasn't. The ladies up front gave us a 10% discount on food we did not eat 🤡🤡🤡 and made us pay??!?? One of them also made it seem like since no other person had complained about the rice , we were making it up ( I told her to go ahead and try what we were served and maybe figure out how ridiculous this restaurant is). The drinks were not bad but they clearly have poor customer service and again no accountability for error. I never want to hear or go near this restaurant. I can't believe people actually go here and are regulars!!! The worst Mexican food we have ever had. The chicken was dry , our quesadillas had no cheese in them. The steak wasn't seasoned. The worst part of it all was I had informed them of my allergy to avocados and that I did not want guacamole and they still included it and ruined my whole meal.

First and most important, our waitress was so incredibly friendly! She was always smiling and was very attentive. The restaurant ambiance is colorful and lots of things to look at while you’re waiting on food. Our chips were fresh as was the salsa. I ordered the Supreme salad, oh my goodness I’ve never had a warm salad but this was delicious! It was packed with chicken, shrimp, beef, broccoli, zucchini, mmmm rice was incredible! My daughters ordered carnitas tacos and a carne enchilada, paired with a radish mix . Both girls were overly full when we left. The check out host was so friendly too! Definitely worth the challenge to park or wait for a seat. Bathroom was also clean and well kept.

Went to El Charolais for the first time yesterday (was with a group of friends who call it "El Kroger" due to its proximity to same). Food and service were quite good. I had the Burrito Mojado (pictured), one of the lunch specials, which is a burrito filled with eggs and sausage and covered with cheese, accompanied by rice and beans. Was delicious, and a really hefty portion for the price. I'll have more to say about El Charolais in subsequent visits, but at this point it is the best Mexican food I've had in Johnson City, though thus far I don't have a lot to compare it to other the Amigos, which was pretty good, but not quite up to the standards of El Charolais.

I’ve been coming here for years and generally always have a good experience. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and they have the best drinks out of any restaurants i’ve been to. The only thing I find lacking is the customer service. Most of the time they’re friendly and quick but the past two times i’ve been have been weird experiences.

I came here for my birthday and sat on the patio, where an employee came out 4-5 times acting angry. She didn’t say anything, just glared/stared down our table while we just kinda sat there confused, she would rush out like she was angry and had her arms crossed a few times. We asked her the last time if we were doing something wrong but she didn’t respond just walked back inside and didn’t say anything or come back out. We also asked our server, who was great, and she said we weren’t doing anything that she knew of or why she was doing that. Just extremely rude behavior imo and if we were doing something wrong, why not tell us that especially when asked?

2nd time; I got a to-go order the guy couldn’t find so when they got it a line was crowding up, i just wanted to pay and skedaddle so i ran my card without paying attention to the total which is completely on me. when i saw the price i paid tho, i was confused bc it wasn’t adding up. I called back said that what i ordered didn’t add up to what i payed so was it possible to pull the receipt and see what i was charged for? i wasn’t asking for money back or anything like that just clarification. the man i spoke w was able to pull it up and tell me which i appreciated, i said okay i see, it was off bc i was charged for things i didn’t order but it’s fine i just wanted to know. he said well we repeat the total to you and you could’ve seen it on the screen” which i said was my bad but no one said the total to me. he repeated the order back to me again and said something like « yeah so you were charged for everything you got on your order, ty bye,” and then hung up on me. personally, it was frustrating to have them ring in the order wrong and then respond that way. no apology or acknowledgment like there was no mistake and if there was it was my mistake. I did get everything they charged me for but it included items i didn’t ask for and didn’t want and it was my money that got wasted.

overall this is an amazing restaurant with really hard working staff plus fantastic food and drinks; literally the best margaritas you will ever have, the food has so much flavor, and the cheese dip is the largest sized one i’ve gotten at any restaurant. my only negative was it seems they could work on being polite to people. i would still recommend it to anyone craving mexican though, it’s the best in...

If I could give ZERO stars I would!!!! Totally disappointed with this restaurant. Placed a to go order yesterday. When the order was picked up I noticed that the way the food was packed in the bag that the foil containers were smashing each other. The bag was tied shut and I brought this to the attention of the hostess that said it would be ok. They were in the middle of having system issues with payment processing so she brushed me off I felt like. Next issue is that since they were unable to process the payment of my food they wrote down my credit card number and said when the system was back up they would process the payment. I was on a break from work so I didn't have much time to wait and she said that they were closing the restaurant due to these issues. I hesitantly agreed and allowed her to write my info down. When I opened the bag up the food was spilled all over the place. Everything I ordered outside of my soup was mixed with each other and I was unable to eat any of the food. I ordered ceviche which is supposed to be cold had hot refried beans mixed in it due to the way the bag was packed. The nachos had I'm assuming what was supposed to be the sauce from the ceviche all on it and they were soggy. Rice everywhere. Tacos were soggy as well because the sauce spilled on everything. I attempted to call the restaurant numerous times but no answer. The one thing I was able to try was the seafood soup. The soup tasted like tomato sauce and sugar and the seafood tasted old. I threw everything away. I wake up this morning to find they charged my card double for what I ordered. I called the restaurant and the man that answered was rude. He tells me that they would never write down someone's card info basically telling me that I was a liar in so many words. Rather than confirm with someone if what happened was true. This is upsetting. He then says he has to take an order and just come in and hangs up on me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH THEM...

We started eating at this restaurant around January. We had never eaten there before because we live in Limestone and it was too far to drive. My youngest son had eaten there one day on his lunch break and told us we needed to try El Charolias. We went about a week later and it became our favorite place to eat Mexican food. We became regulars, passing multiple Mexican restaurants to eat there at least twice a week. Yesterday both my adult sons met up to go eat there. They both ordered a meal with grilled chicken. My younger son also ordered cheese dip and sour cream. My younger son lifts a piece of chicken off his plate to see a hair attached to it. They both said it was about 8 inches long. They tell the waitress and she starts with some no,no, no’s. Then asked if he would want something else. He said no but please take it off his bill. He had only eaten 3-4 bites before he seen the hair. When my older son was finished eating they got their tickets and the younger sons ticket still had the meal on it. She said the manager would have to take care of it. They go to pay and the manager said they don’t have anyone in the kitchen with hair that long. Both sons said look we don’t have hair that long either. Both of my sons have hair about 1-2 inches long. The manager then says YOU NOT GOING TO PAY FOR YOUR BILL! My son says I’ll pay for everything else but I’m not paying for the meal I wasn’t able to eat. Then the manager says again. YOU NOT GOING TO PAY YOUR BILL! GET THE HELL OUT!! 🤬 There we’re more things said, then my other son still pays his bill, he said because his meal was ok. This has made me furious!! I have recommended this restaurant to many many people. We’ve driven out of our way to eat here at least 50 times this year so why would we try to cheat them! They both have jobs and money!! WE WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN! I don’t care how good the food is there, it’s not worth going there and being called a cheat and a liar!! You lost some very loyal customers last...
