Stan the owner is a nice man. I began to patron both the bakery/deli during the day and the bar at night almost 20 years ago. The younger scene began there on what I think originally was Thursday nights and 20 somethings began branding it the "drunken donut" and soon after Stan, a somewhat older charismatic polish deli owner, made friends with the music scenesters especially the younger ones that desperately needed a local venue to believe in them. During the day there is a steady flow of regular customers getting donuts and baked goods and bu night time it's a place where the musical youth crowd gather for live bands. The owner is a polish gentleman who makes amazing food. Half of his store is the bar/bakery and the other half is a small european grocery section. During the covid crisis he was making homemade carry out pierogies and sausage. Hands down a good price for some homemade food. He has a shop that gives Joliet a sense of community.
