I was originally exposed and have 100% identified with Texas BBQ. Now that I live in the South, I'm attempting to broaden my horizons. I won't lie, after 100s of lbs. of ruined meat, I can smoke legitimate BBQ. But, I do my best to remain open and honest.
I was very excited for this place and had high hopes. The staff was very nice and pleasant. I ordered the ribs and sausage. The sausage was ok. With the sauce, it had a little kick. I would absolutely eat that sausage again. The ribs...WTH? First I was asked if I wanted rub. Uhhhh, rub? I stared at the employee, squinted at the employee and thought, she's kidding. Nope, she asked me the question again. I was very confused, but replied, "wwwwiiiithhhh rub", as my head slightly shifted to the left, while remaining eye contact. I must have looked like I just glazed over from a massive bong rip. The ribs were brought out and seared on the gas flame. Served, they looked like a skinned armadillo. I still withdrew judgement at this point and waited until I was ready to eat them.
The ribs were neither overcooked or undercooked. It was sort of this middle ground, where brown meets white, but you don't want to call it tan just yet. The taste, well, the overwhelming waft of gas on the pallet is not what I normally associate with baby backs. I literally could taste gas on the back of my pallet. I felt really bad for the employees, the couple sitting behind me and all future patrons.
I won't be participating in this form of Sport BBQ again. I found the cost didn't quite represent the quality I'm used to. One or 2 day old ribs, heated up on a gas grill, doesn't count as BBQ. Not even close. And if the employee has to ask me or anyone else about whether we want rub or not, you might as well start boiling your ribs, because you've...
Read moreThere are your cookie cutter BBQ restaurants out there, and south Florida is littered with them, from chains, to all sorts of gimmicks, to bbq places who take no pride anymore in their cooking and food .... Let's make one thing clear, Mrs. Smokey's is NOT one of these places.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, warm and inviting, simple down home ambiance, very comfortable, as soon as you walk in you feel welcome.
The food was excellent, the baby back ribs I had were perfectly smoked and extremely tender, the mild sauce was just right and not at all overwhelming the smokey taste of the meat itself, great balance of flavors, nothing at all over done, just GOOD bbq. The sides I ordered were simple, just tots (crispy) and Mac n cheese, my classic favorites, zero complaints as well.
Now on to the staff and service. Fantastic attitude and service all around. I absolutely cannot find a single bad thing or complaint to say about this place. Mrs. Smokey herself and her family still work here at this establishment, SUCH a pleasant person, pleasant smile and genuine attitude towards not just me but every single customer that came in today. What a great experience. She came over to my table to ask for my feedback on the food and we spoke a few times throughout my visit, you can tell she has such a passion for what she does, from back when she started in 1979 all the way until today, she is someone who takes pride and passion in not just the quality of her food but her service, and the way she values her customers, every restaurant should take notes on how she runs her restaurant. She is an absolute joy to deal with!
Thank you Mrs. Smokey for the wonderful experience and the phenomenal food! I will be back...
Read moreThe most incredible BBQ ribs, brisket, and sides, from New York to California, and Illinois to Texas. The St. Louis ribs with dry rub have a pleasant smoke, and melt in your mouth. The brisket needs no knife to cut. Saying it is tender, and FULL of flavor is an understatement. The St Louis ribs are the highest of quality of pork, not cheap meat at all. I would equate the ribs and brisket to prime meat. When you pull into the parking lot and catch a whiff of the smoker, you already know you're at a good BBQ restaurant. Lot's of parking, and easy to find. I have to mention the fried biscuits. Whether you have them with your meal or for dessert, they are magnificent little gems. I could literally eat a dozen. The selection of barbecue sauces are really delicious and there's one for everybody. The Mac and cheese with brisket or pulled pork is comforting, and you'll need to order extra to take home. Everything here is good, and you can't go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Everything I have tried is delicious. But my favorite are the ribs. Now, let's talk about the service, the personal touch, and the love Mrs. Smokey herself puts into this place. It is clean, comfortable, and a real treat to eat here. The employees are friendly, and the owner and family are there to make sure you get quality BBQ, excellent sides, and very good service. They have a great selection of brew, including IPA, and imported. I actually live in Arizona, and I come to Jupiter just to go to Mrs. SMOKEY'S BBQ. IT'S THAT GOOD. I would put this BBQ up against all the entries at the annual Nugget Rib Cook-off in Reno, NV, and Mrs. Smokey's would win, hands down. What are you waiting for? Try it soon!
