I might rate it higher if they had more vegan options. I could only spot 2 dishes that were vegan-friendly: a kale bowl and the avocado wrap. (And I just now looked again and saw a kale salad option.) I got the avocado wrap, and it was excellent. Cooked carrots were packed in with red peppers, arugula, and pickled beets for a nice tangy zing.
I also ordered an oatmilk latte, and it couldn't have been better. My friend got the smothered burrito, and he was skeptical of the abundance of salsa. But he kept scooping it up and enjoyed every last bit.
The decorative aesthetic is one of my least favorites, but I still enjoyed it because it was so immersive. I walked in and felt like I'd just stepped into an old farmhouse out on the prairie. (Yet it's clean and bright inside.)
The service is "good" (friendly and knowledgeable staff -- thank you!) but you mostly serve yourself here and clean your table after yourself.
Went for breakfast soon after they opened on a summer Saturday, and almost no one was there. (Maybe they get busier on Sundays?)
I love the local flavor of this non-chain business -- including their reliance on local foodmakers for their tortillas and other food ingredients. I'd like to recommend it more ... but I wouldn't suggest eating here with my peers because I would always have to settle for picking from their very few...
Read moreWent in on a Sunday for brunch on a rainy day waited about 5 minutes in the line to order. It is an order at the counter and find a seat set up. The coffee orders were backed up so we waited about 15 mins for coffee and our food came out first. Staff were really friendly and kind. Coffee was a little less than amazing no latte art on my dine in coffee and the food server took our number so the coffee server couldn’t find us I went to the counter to get it. When the food arrived all the bowl style plates are the same color (just aesthetics) and the food looks amazing but is really messy and hard to eat. We ordered the breakfast burrito. The fried pickle biscuit and the power banana toast. All looks appealing but crumbled apart as we tried to eat it. I was also surprised that the egg on the biscuit was a runny egg which really disrupted the flavor. Otherwise it was a great biscuit, tiny bit sweet. The breakfast burrito is normally smothered in salsa verde but we ordered it on the side. The burrito is mostly egg, which we liked but the other ingredients were lighter on. The banana toast was good and large amount of banana. Overall thought it was great just hard to...
Read moreHaving left an objective review and been lambasted by the owner (because I also happen to own a restaurant, a fact that actually makes me an informed reviewer, evidenced by the 3.8 million views on my reviews), I decided to return and give Hemma Hemma another shot. My first review stands; the concept is well thought out, the menu reads very well. The service is distinctly lacking from servers who seem oblivious to the menu. The décor and fit out is wonderful and creates a welcoming atmosphere. The food is still coming up short, too strong on certain Thai flavors, albeit this is part of the heritage of the menu. The level of seasoning is still underwhelming but can be added at the table of course. Overall, the best part of this establishment is the fact it is an independent restaurant but it feels like it is dining out on some prolific social media attention rather than on what it was founded upon. I am certain that it will improve and succeed with a little more attention to the flavor profile rather than mere menu descriptions which are creating cognitive dissonance for...
