Tasso, now age 90, is an icon of the Greek community, his restaurant remains safely in the capable hands of his extended family. I'm 73. My first visit was shortly after my 21st birthday with my new bride. It was on 75th & Wornall then. Now it's about 82nd street on Wornall. "The Show" stars Miss Zena. She still looks and dances the same in 1970. No wrinkles, and still married to Mr. Bill the music man, and the wait staff remains impeccable. The new patio allows for outdoor seating, gatherings of family and friends, and is as close as one can get to the mediterranean seaside without a $1,500 flight. The first Thursday of every month is wine tasting, four courses, and the floor show. This is not "fast food" squat and gobble, american style. It's European-mediterranean style. "Slow food" is better for your digestion, mood, and enjoyment. Conversation, teasing, joking, and most important, telling stories, are the reasons the Greeks live to 100+. George, tasso's nephew, runs an efficient, tight ship, but his uncle is still watching over, and one day, when Zeus calls him home, Tasso will be still keeping an eye out from Mt Olympus!

This place was my first time trying something out of my comfort zone. That was over 10 years ago. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday just after the lunch rush to share what I positively felt when I was here. In a neutral light, there were only a few patrons left and no one to seat us. Without any way to obtain service, we just stood and waited. 5 minutes pass and we were finally seated. The menu for lunch was vast with some classic Greek dishes, all new opportunities to try and empty stomachs to fill. For appetizers, we had the Spanakopita and the Dolmathes. For our entrees, the Chicken Kebab and Moussaka. Over a period of 25 minutes, we got both our apps and entrees. Could be slightly better. I can only speak from our experience; The taste was nostalgic and definitely something I wish we had in our town. We also got a Gyro to go to try (A-Must!) The overall price was reasonable for what we received. As I am glad to have came back, I'm more glad about introducing it someone who enjoys it as much as I do and hope to introduce it to more people and spread the good taste that is Tasso's Greek Restaurant.

Dinner at Tasso's has been a tradition for our family almost every holiday season. As I mentioned in a previous review, the food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is lively, and the service is friendly. I've also enjoyed their catering over the years through my company... it's always been an employee favorite. My only frustration is that you get a bit nickel-and-dimed on sides. I understand that costs and prices have gone up - inflation and all - but... when you spend $200 to feed six people, you shouldn't have to pay a another $13 for the one person who didn't get tzatziki to get a tiny bowl (supposedly because "it's a weekend"), or $2 for a SINGLE extra pita on a plate because the one pita that came with the tzatziki didn't split well. Again, I know times are tougher for the food service industry, but pitas and yogurt dip should be higher margin foods to begin with... so a little generosity would have just made for a nice customer experience. Our server wasn't up-front about these costs either, so while we'll be back, we'll be very pointed about asking what we're getting charged for next time.

My daughter's asked for Greek food for her 15th birthday. I made a reservation and when I arrived I was greeted by George. He sat us in the perfect location. I can see the entire facility from our booth. That was a plus! I'm greek and originally from Chicago. I've had my share of Greek food and did not know what to expect from this restaurant in Missouri. I'll tell you what! It was absolutely amazing! We started with the saganaki, a famous flaming Greek cheese. Excellent display of fire 🔥 with a tasty cheese appetizer. It's a must order! We also got the tour of Greece 4 dips that were homemade and yummy. I got the rack of lamb, which was cooked to perfection. my daughter wanted to try the gyro she loved it. My son ordered the kotopoulo chicken riganato. It was absolutely to die for. If you like chicken you will love the flavors of this meal. I cannot continue to rave about the food any longer because if my Greek mother reads this review, she will disown me. Now! The circuses were 10/10. The facility is decorated with such a Greek flair that you will think you are in greece. The Greek flags 🇬🇷 hanging end to end was a super nice touch. Finally, the entertainment was second to none. There was a belly dancer that danced in such an elegant style that you would be highly impressed. Did I mention the breaking of the plates. Yes! Just like in greece. You will have the opportunity to break plates on the dance floor. It's a Greek tradition and an incredible opportunity to release stress. It's also good luck! With all this said, it would not be possible without these amazing servers and chefs that kept up with the demand on a packed restaurant. You will need to be patient at times because this food is not pre-maid sitting under heat lamps. Finally, finally, George! Thank you for such an amazing experience. You put on an amazing show and dealt with the pressure of a packed restaurant in a first-class manner. My hats off to you! You gave my daughter the perfect birthday. This review was written from my heart, and I wish anyone visiting this restaurant gets the same feeling and...

I was raised in the Kansas City area and have dined at Tasso’s sporadically for two decades. I first went when I was around 10 years old and remember the atmosphere more than anything I ate but I was a picky eater in my younger years. As a teenager my family went several times for birthdays, holidays, or just because. The atmosphere was always pretty hype. The crowd was clapping in rhythm to a funny MC and twirling napkins in the air, you could buy plates for $1 to dance around in a circle and break them in the dance floor. The belly dancer would make rounds and tastefully dance and use finger symbols. There was a cute old man that would sell flowers at the table for your date. The food was always pretty good once I started enjoying Mediterranean food lol.

Anyways, fast forward 20 years from my first visit and 10 years after my previous visit:

The building is a well maintained time capsule! I felt like I was right back in my memories. The music started and I was excited to relive all the memories I have at Tasso’s. But I think there are some opportunities for improvement. We sat in the upper dining level and the lighting was a little too dim, like no lights. The sound system could be surround to help get people excited and involved in the show. You could tell the entertainers wanted people to be. And the belly dancing really was the star moment in this dinner and a show experience. But not this time around, I remember the dancer telling my parents that she was 50 years old and that was 20 years ago. She left a great legacy and so many fun memories as I’m sure she did for countless other patrons. But I think the entertainment, MC, lighting, and sound would take this place back to its...

Edit: maybe my review wouldn't have been so personal if, first, some guy in a priest outfit hadn't honked at me while i was trying to get out of my car because apparently, despite there being endless empty parking spaces, he just HAD to have the space next to us, and he had to have it RIGHT NOW. Then he gave me attitude when i got out of my car and proceeded to sit at a table across from us and glared at me during our entire meal. I know he was associated with you because he entered through a service door. If this is how your associates treat your paying customers, then you have additional problems beyond yucky food. This place used to be great. I've come here off and on for decades and have always tried to visit when in KC. But clearly, it's days are done. After several subpar, overpriced meals, it's time to write them off. The saganaki, which they call their 'signature' dish, was the worst I've ever had. The cheese quality was not good, it wasn't cooked and was totally uninspired. The gyro meat was fine, but the pita was out of a plastic bag, and was served cold and dry. The spanakopita was a nearly inedible brick of dried out phyllo and flavorless stuffing. The gyro meat was ok, but who can't make decent gyro meat. I can get that for half the price at a corner greek takeout joint anywhere. The place was empty except for a table of family? and friends? or business associates? that looked like a meeting of the greek mafia. Is this place just a front for some unsavory activity these days? How they remain open and making a living is beyond my comprehension. The only bright spot was a lovely waitress who was a pleasure to deal with. We will never...
