My fiance had been wanting to try Thirsty bull saloon for quite awhile, we finally managed to get the time to go 30minutes north and it was honestly just "okay". They're not super super busy during the day even on a Friday afternoon(before 5pm) which is honestly a major plus for us when trying new places.
It's a sit wherever you want establishment even just for food which is nice. The waitress we had was super kind, we liked her a lot and she's the reason it's a 4 star vs 3 star. We had the trio appetizer with rocky mountain oysters my fiance would rate 5/5, bacon wrapped jalapeƱo poppers we'd rate a 3/5 and mild wings we'd rate a 4/5. The quality of the food is superb, you can tell they're fresh ingredients but everything lacked seasoning to give it that star power to stand out. The mild wings were the most mild we'd ever had, no spice really at all but the flavor was still good.
The cook had brought out our appetizer(we assumed she was just another waitress) and took our order for our main dishes. When it came time for those to come out our waitress brought them and my fiances was correct while mine was wrong, which isn't a huge deal things happen. The waitress was immensely kind, apologetic and took responsibility for it. Asked what I actually had ordered and offered for us to keep and try the wrong order free of charge including encouraging us to try it(we declined but loved the sentiment). When my food was brought out again it wasn't correct but it was close enough I was content. I asked for an additional side of hush puppies and instead was substituted my entire side for them, no biggie I'd just steal some of my fiances fries.
Now when it came to the quality of the main dishes? Again, ingredients super fresh and great quality. I don't like onion rings but the onion rings here are so visually appealing I was tempted! Hand battered, super crispy and airy! However again, no seasoning to be found. The freedom fries were the only thing on the menu we got that had and seasoning and it was primarily just salt(Good but whew so salty!). Chicken strips were crispy, moist and large but unreasoned, ribs were super tender but reminiscent of oven baked which loses them points and my fiance wasn't a huge fan of the sauce, hush puppies were crispy outside but cold and raw inside.
Service was good, drinks were never empty and we were checked on several times. I'm not a person who sends food back unless it's inedible so we simply took things home to zooje it up. Normally small businesses especially bars have killer food that have you coming back nonstop that ropes you into drinks too so this was a disappointment for us especially when we were out of our comfort zone inside.
I don't know what's going on in the kitchen but maybe the spice cabinet just needs refilled? If they added some flavor this place would be a show stopper on food for now it's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreQuite a bit of line dancing and weird side two stepping goes on here. Don't expect an authentic country bar experience and real two stepping like you'll find in OK or TX or we used to have at Denim & Diamonds. But the crowd is fun, everyone is enjoying themselves, and the music is on point. (DJ played Elvira and Jose Cuervo one night - mind blowing!) Service is mostly friendly. Food is good. Prices are reasonable. Had one night where the female bartender waited on every man that walked up, even beside me on each side and I was standing there with cash in hand to order. Passed me over multiple times. I was being patient giving her time to acknowledge me. Finally, one of the men that walked up after me and served before me asked me if I had gotten my drink since he saw me waiting so long. He got her attention for me and she just looked at me like I was irritating her. I ordered. She slammed the one beer down so it foamed out the top and I gave her the cash with a $2 tip and told her to keep it and she grabbed the money and walked off. The only thing she said to me in that whole interaction was the price. I didn't order anything else that night.
Hard to beat though for fun in the Northland. Just know that some female bartenders are like that towards female customers. I bartended for 10 years and learned quickly that men go where the women are and also many women control the wallets in a bar. Always prioritize your...
Ā Ā Ā Read morea few friends have been telling me about this place for over a year, finally went and thoroughly impressed . very small dance floor but other than that best country dance place in kc. the band actually played 3 sets lasting till midnight instead of 2 sets ending at 11:15 or even earlier a few months back guitars and cadilacs fired the band halfway through the night no live music after 9:30. stuck to country music instead of trying to do 2 or 3 generes of music the same night. a country dance club should play country music not hip hop zouk techno pop and what ever they think might bring in more people. people go to a country place to listen to country just like they tune their radio to listen to what they want to head. had some line danceing but didn't over do it. 2 clubs i have gone to do well over 50% line dancing 1 more like 80%. after they play line dances for a hour straight the other dancers have already left. this place had plenty of people to dance with until after i left.very nice friendly crowd.and i hope it is true i heard a rumor they are considering opening somewhere with a bigger dance floor. sorry i can't speak for the food this time but i won't eat before i...
