U-Gene's Deli and Pizza — Restaurant in Kansas City

The "kids" working at night are a bunch of A* holes. They took my order over the phone, had me drive all the way up there and then locked the doors. Once they answered the phone after three calls, they realized it was me and hung up. I went to the gas station (Its connected) and asked why they hung up on me and where my order is and they said they were closed. (15min early from their sign) I asked why they would make me drive up there and then they called the police on me and refused to give me the owners number. After that they threatend to "step outside" and fight them? Sorry, im a 28 year old father who was hungry. Not looking to leave two little a* holes bloody in a parking lot." Dont go there unless you want shitty service and terrible food. If you order, they might just call the police...

I like to give hole in the wall places a try. I often find great food in those places. Not the case here. Ordered a calzone, and when I cut into it, it was raw dough on the inside. The teenager behind the counter asked if I wanted him to put it back in the oven. Yep, not gonna eat it raw. Ten minutes later my food was back at the table. I opened the container and the cheese on top was black (never had cheese on the outside of a calzone before). The kid just walked away. At this point I was starving, in a hurry, and had already waited 45 minutes. I picked around the burnt cheese and tried to eat it. That was a challenge because the dough was now a hard crust and I was using plastic wear. On the bright side, it was no longer raw dough! Eating here was an...

Where to start? The place has an almost New York delicatessen feel to it with a little bit of a modern and a little bit of old school feel to it. The staff is amazing, and they remember you after you've been going there for a bit.

Now the food. They have sandwiches, a host of tried and true that are available any day of the week and one or two specials each day. All of them are fantastic. If they have sausage, get it. Its Scimeca's, enough said. They also have pizza you can get by the slice or order a whole one in advance to carry out.

I love this place and only wish I could make it there more often than I'm able. Honestly if you walk out of this place not full, you probably ought to consult a doctor...there might be something...
