Big Wave Dave's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Kauai

Definitely a local hangout. Good service and bartender was friendly, gave us markers for our dollar bills to aid to their wall! We kept to ourselves and felt comfortable throughout our visit. Ok, I have to add this.... we came back today and as we were walking in, we immediately noticed a different vibe. There was a woman bartender that had not been here last time. Her first question to us was "are you here for food?" We said "no", and her immediate response was "good." Keep in mind, she didn't say this in a rude tone, relieved would be appropriate. Odd, since their cook was in the back room drinking and their menu is displayed on the door. Nevertheless, we still had a few drinks. Bartender was very nice and was good about checking in with us. First time we went was for happy hour. We chose to sit at the bar at the last two seats available at the end. We had to shout out our orders. The Mai Tai was just OK. They have a nice selection of local beers. We had the Edamame and the Tempura Mushroom Bombers. Both were pretty good.

They told us about Sunday Brunch and football season in Hawaii means games start at 8:00 am so we gave them another try. OMG! The brunch menu is very good. I popped in for a happy hour drink. Great deal on well drinks! Made from scratch Margarita was outstanding - I watched the bartender squeeze the citrus. No beer taps, bottles only. A few local regulars at the bar, and I felt welcome to sit. Didn’t get a sense for if there was food, but after about an hour I could hear that the kitchen was going. I ordered the Furukaki Fries, with the sauce on the fries, and they were amazing! I also had perfect fried oysters, and the cocktail sauce they came with was delicious. They played the Merrie Monarch festival on the tv. I love that they supported the hula participants in this ways....
