This little restaurant located adjacent to Waimea Plantation Cottages has a delightful welcoming atmosphere with lots of outdoor seating for the beautiful Kaua'i nights. The food is good quality, the beer selection just as good with the "pay by the pour" concept which is kinda cool. They also have cornhole set up on one side so bring your friends, eat good food, drink and play. If you're looking for a laid back, casual place after a long travel day or a day of hiking in the canyon or beaches this is a great option. Very casual and enjoyable. The only thing to be aware of is that at the time of this review Hawaii is still rebuilding from the pandemic (and it is an island by the way) so inventory can run low. The restaurant was out of pizza dough so no pizza or bread options, and a few of the beer choices were also out. It's not a reflection of poor service, as you'll find similar struggle all over the island. I'm sure with time and tourism picking back up things will get better. The kind waitress told us that our timing of our visit was literally just as businesses were reopening and lots of rebuilding yet to do to get the islands back to where they were prepandemic. We are glad to be here and help in our...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at Chicken in a Barrel after a long hike to Nāpali Cliff and a sunset viewing with my family. We were excited to visit the restaurant all day, but things quickly went downhill when our waitress informed us that we "appeared to be intoxicated" and therefore wouldn’t be served alcohol. This was incredibly confusing and offensive, as we were simply tired from our hike and eager to enjoy a meal.
To clarify, I’m 5 months pregnant and wasn’t planning to drink, but my family was looking forward to having beers to celebrate our day. The waitress even mentioned there were cameras watching us, which made us feel uncomfortable and treated as if we were misbehaving, despite being a group of adults just out for a meal.
We asked to speak to the manager, but no one ever came. Although we felt like leaving, we ended up staying out of necessity and spent over $60 on food because we didn’t have time to go elsewhere.
I understand businesses need to handle challenging customers, but a group of adults—including a pregnant woman and a 63-year-old—refueling after a day in Kauai hardly fits that description. We didn’t deserve to be treated this way, and it left a sour note on an otherwise...
Read moreIf you are looking for horrible service with decent food go here. Sorry but the concept of ordering from an on line menu while three servers stare at you and offer ZERO help at all hasn't been appealing since covid ended. My wife and I dined here once before and it had good TVs with a sports bar feel, but we felt like it was covid times and they didn't tell the staff... that was Sept 2023! So we tried again and this time did not even get greeted by the three staff standing behind the bar talking. We were hungry and wanted a beer after a hike and figured we would stay. Cheers to the cook but the other staff have to go! The concept is stupid, you order on your phone (drinks and food) hope someone sees the order, then cross your fingers they will bring you something at some point...... oh and then you serve yourself drinks. So basically we could do this all by ourselves (at home) except cook, which is why I applaud the cooks. Lastly they expect tips for service! Not really sure what the service is except cooking..... which is why we tipped, for the cooks! It may be better to give your patronage elsewhere. We actually decided not to stay at the plantation hotel on our next stay because of...
