Do you like being ripped off? That’s the first question to ask yourself if you’re considering this place. Coconuts, papayas and dragonfruit are stacked outside the restaurant, so it seems like a good place to stock up on fresh fruit. I know now that these fruits are tourist bait, reeling in the unsuspecting to part them of their money. The counter lady demanded $4 for a single papaya, which is already expensive, but what was worse is she wanted TWELVE DOLLARS for a single dragon fruit. The reason was that they have purple innards, which is rare for some reason. I guess if you haven’t encountered dragon fruits before, then you might think they’re some exotic Hawaiian aphrodisiac and pony up the $12. I chose to go to the farmers market 20 minutes down the street and buy three dragon fruits directly from the farmers for $5. And guess what? They were purple inside.
Maybe the counter lady was confused, but I got the impression this is a place that rips off both tourists and farmers. I’ll guarantee you those dragon fruits cost them a couple...
Read moreReally not good food for the price you're paying. We had the grilled shrimp, kalua pork sandwich, and BBQ pork plate. All of it was cold. The kalua pork was dry - nothing special and it was overpowered with the BBQ sauce. The BBQ pork plate was burnt - actually burnt, yet cold (someone must have forgotten about it). The $10 coconut was not fresh, nor tasty. You can tell it's old by the brown, fraying skin. The coconut meat wasn't even palatable. The grilled shrimp was cold, though the taste was alright, though they probably should have mentioned it was going to be head on and skin on. To makes things worse, they slabbed a huge chunk of cold butter with the plate. Who does that? At least melt it, add some lemon juice, then serve it like an actual condiment. This place definitely capitalized on the fact that they're open on Christmas day. Please do not come here; it's the very essence of a rip off - terrible food for terrible prices. I would highly not...
Read moreWe stopped here unexpectedly and we were all so glad we did. The food is absolutely amazing and the portions are huge!! We had 4 eating here and we all tried something different. The pork was amazing and such a huge plate. The fried chicken was delicious beyond belief and also a very hefty plate. The shrimp was wonderful and there was a ton of it. But my mind was absolutely blown by the white curry!! A huge bowl of piping hot white creamy curry, stuffed to the max with a huge variety of veggies. This soup was so full of flavor and character that my kids and husband wouldn't stop "tasting it".😄 I absolutely appreciate the hard work of the women running this place too! They were slammed with nonstop orders and hustled hard. The quality and flavor of the food is amazing! I honestly hope that one day she can open a full on dine in restaurant! This place is definitely a hidden gem! Mahalo Nui Loa for the wonderful food and nonstop...
