OUTSTANDING breakfast at a decent price in a place with a splendid, second-floor, open-air beach view.
I had the shrimp Alfredo omelet, with mushrooms and spinach, and it was amazing. Would eat here again in a heartbeat. It was the best breakfast - no, wait - the best FOOD we've had since we've been on Kauai. Portions were substantial and filling, but not sacrificing quality for quantity.
Seafood chowder - marvelous. Steak hash - fresh, well-seasoned, and satisfying. Fish and chips - excellent. Burger and fries - couldn't be better. The macadamia pancakes with some sort of pineapple-coconut topping were so unique and delicious it was like being transported to another dimension.
Everything was cooked and prepared to perfection, down to the very savory and flavorful cole slaw - which, I mean, c'mon, if a restaurant is paying that much attention and love to a humble side dish that most people dismiss as a garnish, you just know they really do care about their food and their customers' palates.
The decor was kitschy without going overboard. The service was attentive and friendly, and the servers were sincere and professional (they were also patient and lovely with my dad, who could talk the ears off a field of Ohio corn). In fact, they treated us all practically like royalty, which was refreshing in contrast to most restaurants we've tried here so far. I don't fault the others for that, I can only imagine how exhausting it must be to have to daily serve thousands of demanding tourists with sky-high expectations and a miniscule chance of repeat business. But this place was several large notches above the rest in customer service.
My only problem is wondering how I can convince everyone to eat there one more time before we head back to the mainland, since there are still so many other restaurants to try.
10/10 would recommend with all my heart and...
Read moreI’d like to start by saying both times I went here the servers were great and did amazing with what they had to work with. They’re also the only reason this review is 3 stars and not lower. The food was good and came out in a decent time but the selection isn’t great. During happy hour you only get to choose from about 10 pupus, not even full meals. Both times my bf and I went they were out of both the beers I wanted on draft and out of my bf’s first choice draft. Who in Hawaii has Kona brew on their menu but doesn’t keep it in stock? These visits were also a month apart and the second time the woman told us they’ve been out of it for awhile. They were out of so many beer selections it was actually easier for her to tell us what they did have instead of what was out. If you’re going to call yourself a bar and grill you gotta have more than 2 choices on tap! Again the servers were great but we will not be going back to this place. Updated: gave them one more chance and it actually got worse. The service was so incredibly slow! Yes all the tables were full but there was more than enough waitresses walking around to keep up. We got our food after a table that had arrived after us. We weren't checked on at all. When we wanted our check our waitress was nowhere to be seen. We had to call someone else to find her. After waiting awhile she came over and we told her we'd like the check. She walks away and continues to help other tables, including bringing them their checks (same people who arrived after us). We tried getting her attention numerous times without success. When we finally did, she admitted that she forgot about us! And to make it up to us, she'd give us the kama'aina discount then rushed away before I could say that we were kama'aina. They have used up all their chances with me. And anyone who suggests eating...
Read moreThe service here was really good we came twice not because of the food but because of the service, we came for dinner our bill was $118 We had the sliders for an appetizer which were amazing.
However dinner was a lot less enjoyable it lack flavor I had pesto pasta with what seem like tuna, my sweetie had the chicken parmesan again basic, we both had piña colada’s mine was a virgin, the waitress was the one who really made the visit enjoyable as well as the view. When it started to rain they closed the shade and raised them when it stopped raining.
I wish the kitchen would take time tasting the food before serving it the food tasted like I was at a retirement center dull no favor, it was like they were afraid to use spices. They mixed the tuna within the pasta bad mistake the tuna/fish whatever it was should of been set in center of the dish and lightly cooked not cooked till it was unrecognizable and tasteless.
We came back the next day, to pick out a piece of art we saw the night before, at one of the gallery’s.
We stopped for another drink, I order fries they came out cold, really for $6 for fries you would think they could fry to order, the bar wasn’t full it actually only had one other couple and for that matter neither was the restaurant.
I feel restaurants, should place value in what is presented and then restaurant would receive great recommendations not undesirable reviews.
I would definitely recommend the slider only, they were excellent my first time ever having a slider they were delicious you receive 3 on the plate so they would make a nice meal for a person, I wouldn’t recommend as a appetizer because 3 is an awkward number for a couple to share, it’s a mess to cut one in half, yet they are really good so it just...
