Really want to give this place a 5 star review like everyone else but that was not the case. The people working there are pleasant but do not seem to be paying attention. First thing I ordered was a Gin and tonic, but when a different waiter brought out drinks to the table, I was given a lilikoi margarita. They apologized and then the first waiter came over and said she would get my drink. She came back and said they were out of tonic so I requested a lilikoi margarita instead, since it had looked pretty good. Well when they brought the drink it was a regular one, which she apologized for and brought the correct drink finally. The appetizers were good, one of which was local beef sliders which we actually ordered as a main dish for my grandson, We all tried them and they were juicy. Especially liked the black garlic mayo. However, I got a hamburger as did my Son in Law, we both ordered them med. rare but they were dry and very well done. My roll fell apart because it was stale. They do have a nice choice of beers on tap too. Although the prices were reasonable, at this point in time I would say its was not worth it. I think Taps and Hops has a lot of potential but they need to observe and work with the wait help. When you ask you server questions, they should know the answers too. If you are going to use local beef, it needs to be done to order, as it is a treat to have it, and you should NEVER overcook it. A FRESH roll should always be served with every burger. I will wait a few months and give it another chance, since it is a new and locally...
Read moreConfused by the 5 star reviews, are they fake? We were in Kauai for 2 weeks and this was the worst food we ate. How do you mess up loco moco? My meat was overcooked to the point of it crumbling due to dryness, my husband had the kalua pork sliders same thing overcooked dry meat. It was not happy hour they were not busy don't know what happen, maybe they need some chef training. The beer was basic, nothing special but if your calling yourself taps and hops offer more options. The place was set up for a good time and the reggae music was a big hit for us. The staff was friendly and attentive. When we return next year we will come here just for music and beer only. We are not foodies, we choose places based on views, beer and music. For us to post food was disappointing must mean something. We dint complain because we don't send food back, now if the beer was warm or flat oh it's going back. Better luck to...
Read moreTaps & Hops gets five stars for the garlic parm fries alone. These rank near the top of any fries I've had. Think perfectly cooked fries - tender inside, brown and crisp outside - bathed in freshly chopped garlic then covered with shaved Parmesan. Seriously good.
The rest of the menu, while not outstanding, is pretty good. Happy hour offers bargain bites. Mandoo are tasty Korean inspired gyoza. Sliders are ok. The beef had good flavor, but was on the dry side. Taro buns were perhaps a step too far. Flavorful but dense bricks.
The beverage menu does not disappoint. Even at non-happy hour prices, beers are less than many other places. Selection is excellent, ranging from light to hop bombs to a good porter. Mixed drinks are fine as well. Coconut rum mojito anyone? Strange sounding but good!
