Chicken Coop Sports Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Kearney

I’ve been to this location twice. The first time last summer, the food was decent, typical bar food. The service was pretty slow, but polite and friendly.

We decided to try again last night. The cheese curds/ranch were the highlight of my meal. A couple people ordered burgers which were both over cooked. The real tragedy were the French dips.

Myself and a friend ordered french dips and honestly it was the most pathetic sandwich I’ve ever seen. The menu claims thinly sliced prime rib, which is typical. What we received was pre-packaged, thinly sliced, lunch meat, possibly ham, that was probably browned/warmed up in a frying pan and then thrown on a hoagie. Absolutely pathetic. There was no mention from the waitress that they had run out of their prime rib and this was what they were substituting it with. It was just delivered to our table this way. I sure hope this isn’t their regular french dip offerings but never again. Service was slow… again… to the point we actually thought about just leaving without paying, but they FINALLY came around...

usually my go to place for bar food at lunch. biggest issue with this place is the constant turnover in servers. yesterday they added food to my pet peeves! ordered wing (easy enough to make). sweet and sour wings were really teriyaki, not as advertised but all in all ok (wings were hot and taste great). other half of my order was garlic parmesan (also easy) BUT these wings were cold to lukewarm (can someone say salmonella) and they dumped a jar of garlic on them and called it good. hot food should always be HOT (and cold food cold). explained the issue to my server who looked confused and offered no solution (talk to manager, take them off my ticket because they were inedible, etc.). just got a "sucks being you" look and she moved on. most of the time the food is good to great so its...

I had ordered a Reuben. When I received it, it was drenched in dressing with no sauerkraut on half of the sandwich. I requested some more kraut to add to it, they brought me a cup of it that was cold. I tasted it and realized why they don't put much on the sandwich as it was horrible. I am not one to return food so just wasn't going to eat it, but my husband told the waitress it was bad so she offered us another one. I said no to another sandwich but hubby ordered me a bacon cheeseburger. It came and looked ok, was way overcooked though. This place is normally one of our favorites, maybe just a rough day for the cooks. Our waitress was nice and for her efforts we did tip nicely. Will stick to the Jack Sauce wings from now on.
