MONA — Attraction in Kearney

A wonderful facility, now i can understand why it took so long to remodel. The staff at the front entrance was amazing, so helpful and very kind. Now for the bad news. For the life of me, I cannot understand how the focus became 95% modern art. The vault has hundreds of works of traditional art just setting on racks in the basement. It is clear the curator has a biased bent towards modern art and has no respect for traditional works by Nebraska artist. I can, and I do appreciate modern art, I know and believe it has a place in every museum. Having said this, perhaps a name change should be in consideration at this point. (MONA) Museum of Nebraska Art. Should now be renamed Nebraska Museum of Modern Art or (NMOM). PS: There is certainly enough room to incorporate more works of art throughout the gallery. Very modern, never visited before. Told by the docent the museum was closed for four years for a 36 million dollar renovation, very clean and spacious.

I loved my visit. I arrived very soon after the museum opened to find another group of people were already exploring the museum. My my way out I saw two more groups. I visited one month after the museum has reopened.

Although not a huge museum, it is nice and shares the mindset I believe of most Nebraska. The prairie life, the hard working life and the beauty...

Our business, smoke n trees, worked snow removal this year for the Mona. Getting paid for our efforts and work was like pulling teeth. Every time we called we were told that it would probably be another couple weeks. Constantly getting the run around. The ladies we talked to were very rude. We are now 3 weeks out from when we did the work and we're still being told that it might be another 2 weeks. Not impressed. If I could give them minus...
